So I'm always making orange haired customs and I noticed something... RealHairMatches.jpgPupmkinHula.jpg

On the Shimmer Locks site it says Pumpkin Delight doesn't match any G1s, then it says Tahitian Sun Matches Pina Colada, but shows a picture of Hula Hula with a matching shade of orange. When I bought the hair Pumpkin Delight matched Hula Hula, and Tahitian Sun matched Pina Colada. I think the photo of Hula Hula on the Tahitian Sun page is actually Pumpkin Delight. As you can see Tuneful has a pretty good match to TS as well, as does Pretty Beat (in her streak, not shown). On the Etsy page I saw Pumpkin Delight trying to match with Pretty Beat's streak, and it is not really match. I guess this is just a PSA for restorers, and those who want to make customs using shades of orange found on original ponies (like me, lol).

EDIT- Natural Light Picture Match: Yeah, I think there is a mistake on the site. The above pics are under a flash, but this is natural light. That is Pumpkin Delight on the Tahitian Sun page because Tahitian Sun does not match Hula Hula, but it does match Pina Colada and Tuneful. Okay, I'm over it, lol. HulaMatchNaturalLight.jpg

lol… they clearly aren’t pony collectors. Maybe just hair sellers. You could point it out and they might fix it.

The owner is super nice im sure she would understand!:purpleheart: It could be a case of she accidentally put the wrong names in the description. Shed probably be glad to know!:winkpony:

She is very nice, I let her know, and she said she'd look into it once she has the time, since she's also very busy (business must be booming). I just thought I'd make a thread here in case anyone was restoring Hula Hula...or anyone with hair like hers (if there is any?), and also give the lowdown on Tahitian Sun being a good match for Tuneful, since she isn't listed as a match on the site.

I think at one point someone on here had a color matching guide. It would be so nice to have a guide for all the hair colors in one place.

just letting you know Shimmer Locks got back to me. Really good customer service here. :rainbow2:

She said she re-compared the ponies she owns and her Pina Colada and Hula Hula have the exact same hair color. She also said she learned that Tuneful and the Tropicals had a few variations. She said it might be due to fading, but it might have been due to quality control. I did some more research and found a site where someone had all the tropicals, therefore the collector had two Pinas and two Hulas, one of each with the light and one with the dark. Then I saw a Lau Skypainter video where she is reading pony magazines (<3<3<3) and her Hula was DARKER than her Pina (the opposite of my situation).

So now I see that two tropicals had the same hair, two had the same eyeshadow, two had symbols made of stripes, but only one has nothing in common with Hula Hula (unless maybe Tootie Tails' last stripe of hair matches Hula's body color. Is that a stretch?). interesting dynamic there.

Since orange never turns white, and these ponies were made two years before MLP went out of business in the U.S. I think it's a quality control variation. She has access to both these colors, and they match, so maybe Hasbro had the same access/issue. I told her that she should probably take off the claim that Pumpkin Delight hair color is not known to match any G1 ponies, and replace it with the claim that it matches some Hulas at least. She included photos to prove what she said, but Paradise is not as close a match for dark haired Tuneful as Tahitian Sun is for light haired Tuneful.

In my original letter to her I said I didn't include Barnacle cuz he was stored away, and she said the same thing about her Barnacle, and I said "Maybe they are the same one???":tongue::cool: Then I asked if she liked my glamour shots I sent that she could use as an example for "Custom Blend" on her site and promised I wouldn't argue if she couldn't use them, lol.

So, remember, if you are trying to match for Tuneful, orange haired Tuneful is Tahitian Sun, red haired is kind of close to Paradise, and either Pumpkin Delight or Tahitian Sun would work for the tropicals Pina and Hula, you might have to match at home to the crew cut if you are restoring. It seems Pina and Hula are supposed to match each other either way. Personally I prefer the lighter color -Pumpkin Delight- as it is not as fluorescent on its own, but is more bright compared to the rest of their rainbow, like once it's rerooted. Tahitian is closer to the color Dollyhair is claiming matches Pina (I think?). She had really good lighting (of course) in her photos.

Then I bought some lavender tinsel :princessmisty::coolpony:
