G1 Hair straightener advice

Thank you so much for your detailed recommendations Skybreeze! I've never heard about the coconut oil treatment before, but it sounds good, I'll definitely try that at the weekend! I still have a jar of coconut oil I never use in the kitchen anyway, as we're not too keen on coconut products (we only like fresh coconut). :)

I've also just found a UK seller for Mane 'n Tail products on ebay. Seems to be a great product and ingredients-wise it suits my requirements. I'll try the "deep moisturising" line, sounds perfect for pony hair.

Yes, I've also read about fabric softener. Do you know how you use it, do you use it like conditioner or do you soak the pony's hair for a longer period in it?
I don’t know for sure but I think the hair needs to rest in the softener for awhile. The MLP Preservation Project night have the answer, I haven’t checked though. :(

Thanks for the link! I'll try your suggestions first, and perhaps buy fabric softener the next time I place an order with our supermarket online, as we don't use fabric softener on our laundry. :)

I've since had success with straightening crinkly tinsel using my hair straightener on the lowest setting. I had no idea if this would work or if the tinsel would just melt, but it went quite well.

All my childhood ponies with tinsel have still very straight, lovely tinsel, but Skylark, who I bought on ebay years ago, has very crinkled tinsel and this has annoyed me ever since she arrived here, so this weekend, I thought I might give it a try. I started with one strand of tinsel, and as it didn't melt, I painstakingly separated the tinsel from the nylon hair and gently pulled it through the straightener. I'm quite happy with the result:

Then I started working on a pony with really dry and frizzy hair. Her hair looks much better now, but the ends are still dry and a bit frizzy, but it's much more tamed now. As the ends are still dry, I'll try the coconut oil treatment Skybreeze suggested tomorrow. I'll report next weekend how it went.

Then I've ordered the Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner duo on ebay (I couldn't find it over here), so hopefully it will arrive in the next few days. I hope it will be here in time to use it on my frizzy girl. Here you can see how she's doing so far.

Beautiful job! They look great. I’ve never tried without tinsel before, but I may have to.
