So starting January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021 marks a full year of celebration for it being the big 40 for MLP's brand, since My Pretty Pony got released in 1981. I'm super excited, but I haven't seen anyone hype for this, or even discussing it! Come on, you guys!
Can you believe that the colorful pony franchise is fracking FORTY?!
How many more years do you see this pony ride galloping along?
How long have you been a part of the fandom?
Do you think we'll get any acknowledgment by Hasbro regarding the 40th anniversary of the pony brand?

That’s awesome! I had no idea :lolpony: I think I’ve been playing with ponys since 1995 or 1996
Hopefully it’ll keep going forever!
and that would be cool, special anniversary ponys

This year, no. Next year, maybe. I don’t think Hasbro has ever used My Pretty Pony to mark MLP’s anniversary. Basic Fun’s ponies, which were originally done to coincide with the 35th anniversary, started in 2017. And I think the 25th anniversary ponies were done in 2007. I don’t think others do either, which would explain the lack of hype/discussion you mentioned.

MLP was released in 1982, MPP wasn’t apart of the MLP brand.

So, if anything we will likely see something next year but I suspect we’re more likely to get something for the brands 50th anniversary.

MPP may not be MLP but we would not have MLP without it. It was the toy that MLP was based off of, and they are essentially one and the same, just MLP is smaller. We owe MLP to MPP, that is why it is included

Wow... this means I'm getting old. Like grey hair, too old for children old. Cool!

I have been into My Little Pony since the days of G3, since that is the generation I grew up with (g3 Minty will always have a special place in my heart:blink:<3)
But I got into g4 in 2013 at the end of season 3-start of season 4, and have loved it ever since... it is my favorite generation.
I also got into collecting g1 in 2020, so yeah... I've been in the MLP fandom for 12-13 years AT LEAST! I love it all!

Just liked ponies for got my first in the 80’s. I think as many people like them ponies Will be around for a long time.

Way to make this collector feel old LOL!! There is always some gray area as to the start of MLP, I consider it 1982 cause that's when the flat foot 6 came out and when the patent was filed. I've also heard 1983 since that's when ponies became more available in stores and the patent was approved. I agree MPP started us on the path to MLP and I proudly have MPP as part of my collection. I would think any MLP anniversary hubbub won't be this year though but that doesn't mean we can say happy anniversary My Pretty Pony!! Maybe I'll pull my old girl out and spiff her up a bit to celebrate!

It's generally accepted that 1982 is the first year. When the community celebrated it, International Pony Day was always on August 2nd because the US MLP line began in 1982. 1982 -> '82 -> 8/2 -> August 2. Bonnie Zacherle's book, My Lil Pony Tale, specifies that MLP was released in the spring of 1982. Not saying that MPP isn't important, it just isn't the beginning of the line.

I was born in year two of the G1 MLPs and most of my memories are a mix of the later years around 1988-1994. For the longest time I didn't know MPP was a MLP but she seems to fit in well (Megan's pony in the cartoon would have made an interesting character if she had traveled and started speaking I always thought).
Before the internet I mostly just found ponies at yard sales but the fandom side of things really opened up for me in 97 when I joined High Queen Tiffany's site and found out there was a whole world of mlp fans

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost forty years  MLP is so timeless in theme and heart I hope it's around for many more.
I think it would be a great birthday gift to the line if they went back to G1 MLP size toys with new characters for G5 but I don't know if that will happen. MPP herself might make a nice nowadays style toy with how far tech and toy robots have come since the 80's.

Even if it technically isn't the anniversary of MLP I think 40 years since MPP is a big deal! I've always loved ponies-- I was born in 2004 so G3 started my liking for ponies but I absolutely fell in love with G4. So I've been a pony fan for about as long as I've been alive...that's crazy! I hope MLP will still go on strong for many more years.

I always include MPP in my personal celebrations; I consider it kind of a prequel type thing. But man, going back through all the eras and changes that MLP has been through over the past 40 years is super cool. I hope Generation 5 is still on track and I can consider its launch a 40th anniversary celebration!
