And his coloration actually makes sense as sexual dimorphism that way.

With the release, I just headcanon G3 society is like Prattchett's dwarves and there is only one gender role for both sexes.
 
So cool! I have never heard of Prattchett's dwarves!
 
As a kid we only had one ‘boy’ pony (Tex). So my sister decided Sparkle Pony Star Hopper was a boy and I think Bow tie and Applejack were a couple. Fizzy had a girlfriend too, Streaky, I think? Quackers was a boy sometimes and had a rotating cast of lovers… and of course this was in the 90s when LGBTQA+ wasn’t as visible (at least to us kids) so we didn’t have names for any of these relationships or identities. And we didn’t care. We also only had one Ken doll for most of our childhood so my Barbie (Abby) and Theresa were long term partners.
