Well, Mortimer is an Opossum that was living in my garage. I decided I didn't like that idea. So, we caught him and moved him into a nice wooded area with open fields and water ways to enjoy his life and find himself a girlfriend. I just can't remember if I told you about him yet. So much has been going on. I love the way he grips the bars on his humane trap. He was not scared and left with a full tummy for the journey. Cat food! DH and I caught him and drove him out of town around 11pm in the evening one night last week. Boy that was a night to remember.

Aw, he's a cutey! Ya gotta watch it with possums, they are the most ornery little buggers. Setting him free was so generous, especially taking him somewhere safer than in the city. I've raised a couple and found them to be graceless, ungrateful brats.

I can't wait to raise another! They remind me of my son.

:lolpony:

aww it's a little guy! they sure are squirrely. I remember watching my mom chase one our of our duck house with a pitch fork when I was a kid. Boy, was that sucker scary, hissing the whole time. Although I'm sure he found the pitch fork intimidating.

I dunno that possums are smart enough to be scared of even a pitchfork. I can't say how many I dragged (alive and dead) out of our dogs pens. What animal willing go into a virtual lion's dean?

One attacked my collie's pups once and ate a pup's tail and a hunk of another's leg. Poor little puppies! Their mama made short work of that mean ol' possum!

Oh my. The only experience I've had with US possums is watching "Over the Hedge". They sound rather savage.

Yea, I wouldn't tussle with a possum if you can help it. They get really nasty. While they may seem similar to a raccoon, which have been known to be tamed, the possum's brain has remained the same size since prehistoric times while the raccoon has grown significantly larger over time. So the possum seems to have not gotten any smarter since the dinosaurs and remains cranky and unfriendly.

He looks cute! :) But I wouldn't not want to go near any possum after reading your stories.. No no no :p
But you were very gentle to drive him to safer place to live on :) and even fed him ;) even though he wasn't the best house guest..

Yea they carry dangerous diseases too. Not an animal to make your best bud.

The two I raised hated me even as babes. They're cute, but they're better adored from afar.

I will tell you the hilarious story of Rosebud Possum one day though. When I figure out how to tell it and not get modded. :D

Oh what a precious name for such a stinky boo boo critter.

Mortimer is cute, though with that name I was expecting a mouse if anyone remembers Disneys Mortimer Mouse

sorry to hear about your puppies foofoo. poor little things :( I had no idea they were so aggressive

You know, they're so ugly and stinky and mean but I still find 'em oddly cute. We've had a few hang out in the back yard at night, up on the fence. They drive Frank nuts. I haven't seen any in a while though. One night, I swear I went to call Frank in from his potty time and I see him and this huge opossum both just chilling in the back yard about 3 feet from one another just peacefully cohabitating, minding their own business. My jaw dropped and I shouted to Frank to get in the house before anything could happen, but I think they were buddies, Frank loves anything that smells bad

They either love it or are immune to it.

Yea what is it with the question, Do you smell that? And a man looks at you with a blank stare, I don't smell anything? Pfffft
