Hi,
I am a newbie from Calgary,Canada and I am very happy to have discovered this awesome forum. I was wondering if some one can answer a question, how safe is it to soak dirty ponies?
Is it true that they can rust or should I clean them very carefully? How do I wash their hair if I want to avoid mould or tail rust?
Thanks and have a great weekend :)

Hi nice to meet you. :)
ponies do have metal parts in their tail so soaking them in water can produce rust. When you wash a pony try to avoid holes (mane and tail holes mainly). I wash ponies with toothbrush and soap. Dipping the brush to soapwater and rub. Then drying with towel.
For the hair I dip mane and tail to water (body does not touch water) then I put hair conditioner and leave it for couple of minutes (if hair is very tangled I keep conditioner longer). Then I brush the hair gently rinse the conditior off, style and leave it to dry (at least for a day) ready :)

Here is good website about pony restoration http://www.mlppreservationproject.com

Thanks for the advice I will do that;) I want to take good care of my ponies!
Have a great weekend

What do you think of fakie ponies? I just bought one that has a mark that reads Totsy :)

I would say if the heads are not glued on anymore then soak away. Be sure to remove the tail if your head is not glued on. If the head is glued on and you don't want to take it off then use a mr. Clean magic eraser, slightly damp and clean all areas that do not have a symbol. Avoid getting magic eraser on eyes and blush also. Once dirt is gone, wash the body being careful to not get any water in the tail hole. Don't dunk them in water or run heavy stream of water on the body. Turn the pony upside down to wash the mane under a trickle of water. I prefer my pony heads to not be sealed on most poses of g1s as I store a silica a packet in each of my ponies. So I am different, but some poses do not look right without a seal at the neck. I don't break the seal on my ponies unless I detect mold. Oh and welcome.

Greetings and hello's! I am Michelle Lysyk also from Calgary! Enjoy the forum!
