Nice to meet you!

My name is Emillia. I am 21 years old, and a new pony collector from the Netherlands. In my day-to-day life I am a student majoring in theatre and education.

As a kid my parents would not let me watch regular tv that often, and instead they bought me dvd's and VHS tapes. This is how I ended up watching a lot of old shows from the 80's. My favorite thing to watch was My Little Pony the movie - I watched that over and over again until I had memorized all the lines and could "talk along" for the entire run of the film (I'm told that drove my mom crazy haha). :lolpony:

I'm someone who has always been collecting stuff, even when I was little and didn't even have my own money yet. When I was 12 I got really into anime and Hello Kitty, and I have collected old kitty stuff up until I was 18. I also collected all kinds of manga for years. Unfortunately I had to sell almost all my stuff when I moved out and started my bachelor when I was 19. These past 2 years I have been collecting old first-edition plays, or old dutch plays that have gone out of print. And I'm a huge huge Miffy fan! I have a lot of Miffy stuff. Of course she's a dutch icon, but she's seen as something mostly for kids and babies here. But she's also very popular in England and Japan, and more commonly among adults, so whenever I want a Miffy thing for grown-ups, I usually have to buy internationally.

How did I start collecting?
It was a very recent lucky accident. Not too long ago amazon "opened" a dutch site. I'm not a big fan of big companies like amazon, but I wanted to see if they had some cute miffy stuff. I also started looking for winnie the pooh, care bears, and bratz, just to see if I could find anything. And there I saw Trickles in her 35th anniversary box.
I thought she was sooo cute! And I started remembering all the ponies I used to play with. I liked her cutie mark with the little watering cans, and decided to see if I could get her second-hand somewhere.

That's how I found out about the G1 ponies and mlp collectors. I looked on youtube and saw people washing, styling and displaying their ponies and just thought that was the most wholesome hobby. And since ponies aren't super huge I can easily fit a lot of them in my student room. I bought my first pony, Trickles (1984, Hong Kong) from a very nice lady and the rest is history.

I am very excited to join this forum and talk ponies with everyone! There's still a lot I don't know, but I feel like I am in the right place here. :flutter2:

Welcome to the mlp tp! The Netherlands had some really cute ponies that were so unique. There are so many nice and knowledgeable people here from customs/restorations to general pony info that makes it an awesome place to be for collectors! What is your favorite G-1 pony?
When you said Winnie the Pooh I had this little wave of nostalgia.... I hope you enjoy being apart of this community!

Well, about those dutch ponies... my favorite G1 pony is probably Meezing-pony (singalong pony), but that is because her name sounds really funny and cute in Dutch. And I love her pastel pink hair! But I don't think I'll ever get to see her in real-life haha

Welcome to the MLPTP!

My brother's fiancé graduated from theatre school here and she's doing a lot of writing and producing her own shows right now for her company. What are you hoping to get out of your degree once you graduate?

You have certainly come to the right place if your looking to learn more about MLP as well as buy. We have a wealth of knowledgeable people here as well with many years experience. Some of us may or may not be a bad influence when it comes to buying new ponies to add to herds. ;)

Welcome to the herd

Well, I have done a lot of producing shows and standing on stage, that is my passion. I love performing. I would love to do that professionally. But even without the corona pandemic the theatre branch is doing incredibly poorly locally right now. I would even say it hasn't been this bad since the war. I know long-time professionals who (even after 30 years of work) can't sustain themselves right now and have taken to doing other work at the moment.

So this next year I'm going to try and focus on teaching mostly, and I'm thinking of starting a company as well. I love working with kids, so something like a make-believe theatre birthday party could be great. Little kids could be a princess or a prince for one day, or fight and ride actual (fake) dragons. I love dreaming about all the props and environments I could design for this! I don't know how realistic this idea is, but I can dream, right?

Welcome to the MLPTP! I always imagine what it would be like to grow up in another country where you could find all those ponies that here in the US are considered rare. I'd love some Dutch G1 ponies!
Nice to meet you!
They are rare here aswell, but a little less expensive if you do find them. I'm pretty sure I even saw some at the thrift store one day.

Hello & welcome, Emilia :star:

I feel ya on the tv! We didn't actually have any reception for any channels, even then, I was forbidden from watching most things at friend's houses ^-^; I did see a few episodes of the original MLP at my cousin's house, but our video store had no MLP tapes for some reason:cry: isn't memorizing and parroting movies fun? I still do it to this day and drive everyone nuts instead of just my parents ;)

Me too on the collecting! I'd collect stickers, bouncy balls, rocks and other people's trash; chef boyardi can lids, those little rocket-ship snap-off lids on drinks, & pizza dividers. As you can imagine, they were all consonantly thrown out too:cry::cry: I'm so sorry you had to sell so much of your collections! That's such a how difficult pain to contend with :xmashug:I had most of my things thrown out on two separate occasions so now I go way overboard collecting all kinds of very specific things ^-^; That's awesome that you collect first editions and out-of-print things ;) sounds like you have excellent taste in general!

When did Amazon open it's Dutch site? I'd of thought they'd have done that ages ago :madpony: agree on big, faceless corporations. What a wonderful accident!!! I'm so happy that you didn't dismiss that impulse <3 I had one of those myself a few weeks ago. Was half-watching a totally random video on youtube and at the very end, the girl casually brings up her complete G1 pony collection and they show it on a complete non-sequitur. Had a light-bulb moment XD

ANYWAYS, sorry for the rambling >_< I really am glad that you decided to pursue taking up the hobby and joining this forum. I've only been here a few days and am totally enchanted with how friendly and kind everyone on here is. It is a very wholesome place, and it's hard to find places like that online anymore :/

Here's to fun, friendship & fond memories on your Excellent Pony Adventure~

Emillia Welcome.
How's your Student/Dorm Room?
I got really lucky actually! I moved in the middle of the pandemic, before this I used to live with a male friend but he started drinking a lot so we both agreed It'd be best that I move out while he picks up his life. Now I live in a nice room with a balcony, and I have 2 very nice female housemates.
The oldest is into lolita fashion and designs her own clothes, and the youngest collects funkos and does disney cosplays. I also live in a normal flat, not really a student flat so it is nice and peaceful overall. And! There's this really great forest not too far from my place, and I love going for a run there. :cc:

Well, yes! I think there has been a Dutch site for a year, maybe more. But they didn't really sell anything but cd's and movies. Now they have a really big catalogue that also translates everything on the English site. I think they didn't feel the need to make a Dutch site at first, because most Dutch people speak English pretty well, but they were probably losing out on a bit of money because you can only pay with credit card or Paypal internationally, and we use Ideal. Now that they want to rival big Dutch online stores, they had to change their game I think.

I agree, everyone is really kind and respectful here. It is very hard to find online spaces anymore, and so far I'm really glad to be here. :star:

Welcome to the board! I'm enjoying reading all about your adventures! College can really be an amazing time!
