Hey everyone, can someone point me in the right direction for cleaning/boiling ponies. I recently have this new laptop and I know I saw a sight once where the proper method of boiling and cleaning ponies was shown. Has anyone here done it and what did you boil them in. I have a original flat foot cotton candy who has some marks, not sure what they are, but she also has 2 very bad ink spots that I hoped would come out. Now I have heard some put them in sunlight covering the hair and symbols but the ink spots are on her symbols. lol Also, is here any way of getting dry frizzy hair soft again? Does boiling do anything to the hair? I also need to buy some new hair, how do you know how much to buy and where can you get it?

Help please, thanks. :)

I am not sure the ink will come off if you boil the pony, however it is good for cleaning dingy ponies, and getting rid of pin dot mold. If you boil ponies i think it dries out the hair. There is tutorial button on the top that should help you out.

With the hair, there are many methods to getting ride of frizz.
some soak the hair in fabric softener, others use a good conditioner and leave it on for a day or two.

However my method is the wet hair with a deep conditioner and a straight iron. here is the steps.

Okay i guess i should have taken before and after pics, If a pony has brittle dry hair or its really tangled, i only use this if it is really bad, like after i have tried with out success.

example i had a firefly come to me with very badly damaged hair i have no clue what happend to her i couldn't even get a comb through her hair, after treatment it still wasn't perfect but i can now comb it without tangles.

get a really good deep hair conditioner i use (smooth'n shine therapy silk fusion) bought at dollar store also can be called critical hair repair for dry and damaged hair

directions

1) try to wash the ponies hair first

2) then slather on the conditioner really thick wait like 5 min

3) comb through what you can, but don't worry if you can comb to much

4)leave conditioner on while doing this step, start at the base of the tail or mane use straight iron (i set mine to the middle setting)

5) comb hair again, i usually work the hair from the bottom up, make sure the ponies hair says wet

6) add conditioner as you go, continue until you can freely comb through the hair.

7) rinse and style as you would normally, hair should be smooth and soft.

caution should be noted, I do this at the bathroom sink be careful, when using straight iron around water, also try not to burn yourself.

good luck with the damaged pony hair. have fun

I don't think there's a "wrong" way, just make sure you don't boil the pony intact (ie, take her head off or she'll implode) and keep stirring her to make sure she doesn't stick to the hot metal if you boil it on a stove.

Sunfading is your best bet for removing ink. I have a whole row of ponies in my window all wrapped up like baked potatoes. Wrap everything you don't want faded in foil, and put the inked up part in the sun. Leave it for a few weeks or so.

For frizzy hair - flat iron! You'll need a really super-thick conditioner and a variable heat straightener (ceramic ones are best). Wet the hair and slather the conditioner on, then set the iron to about 5 for normal pony hair (mine goes to 10, and I use less heat for foreign ponies with their different hair types). With the conditioner still in the hair, start close to the pony scalp and work your way to the ends. It will sizzle, but it will be fine, that's just the conditioner coming in contact with the hot iron. You can go over the same area more than once, but you may need to reapply conditioner if the hair startes feeling like there isn't any left on it. Work in small sections. I've found that a stiff bristled toothbrush is great here for separating small sections and for keeping those sections smooth after ironing.

You can PM me for more details if you want, or PM Aadra310 for testimonials about how many of her ponies I've cleaned up over the years, lol!

For the hair, custompony.com and dollyhair.com would be your nylon supplies in the US. CP hair is more like original G1 hair, and DH hair is more like G3 hair. I like both, depending on what I'm doing with it. One skein of either SHOULD be enough to do a full restore on one pony, but I usually order 2 in case the cats steal the hair and ruin it or something. They do things like that. Be advised that DH has been out of the colors that match Heart Throb and Medley for a long time and does not know when she'll get more in.

Also, if you don't want to do any of these steps, I can do them for you. I LOVE doing things like this, lol!
