Step 1: Grab pony generation of choice
Step 2: Grab my nail polish remover
Step 3: Grab q-tip and find a scrape from last owner/me
Step 4: Clean

I use nail polish remover on scratches that i have found either from the previous owner or jut me in general, then i make sure there are no more scratches and perfect them before either putting it away or just staging for pictures!

does it damage the plastic/leave bad streaks, or is it okay as long as we avoid painted areas like the eyes and the cutie mark? is it bad for the hair as well?

Acetone:
For hair I honestly don't know, I suppose try on some bait hair and see if you are concerned. I haven't seen any damage, but I haven't dipped pony hair in acetone to try either.

You can use it on the body for light mark removal, but in my experience it *can* leave faint marks in the surface of the plastic if you really scrub it in too hard. But for general gentle surface cleaning it is fine for a pony body and I use it all the time, but yes it will absolutely remove eyes and other painted areas.

Concerning acetone: which one is recommended for removing stains: 100% pure acetone, or a watered down version?

@IceCrystal - if your looking to remove a light mark, nail polish remover is enough as it’s not typically 100% acetone. If it’s a stubborn stain you can use 100% but be aware that it can and will remove paint if it makes contact with it, and as CC mentioned it can change colour on pony sometimes too.

@loopilerp - if acetone is used on pony hair it does make it very dry and brittle. Best ways to clean pony hair is with shampoo/conditioner and in some extreme cases an oxiclean bath (but this can also dry hair and make neon or bright colours bleed).

The MLP Preservation Website is a fantastic resource for beginners and give a lot of tips and resources that are extremely helpful. But trying and doing things on your own on a “bait” pony will also give you more experience and sometimes you can come up with new ideas and ways to help save an old very loved pony. :)

oh, really! shoulda know lol.

Always be very careful before recommending restoration advice to others ;) There are a lot of things you may not expect that can permanently damage your pony ;) @Skybreeze's recommendation of the MLP Preservation Project is a great place for reliable, safe information.
