I just finished my unicorn sculpture after over a month of work...Now it's time to paint it, and I'm a bit nervous. I'm trying to decide whether I should paint it realistically (white/gray) or a little more MLP style? If you guys were to paint my model, what colors would you use? I trust you the most out of any community on the internet, lol.

Woah it's so nice ! You did an excellent job !!
I'll definitely try to paint it in a natural way (brown, white, like Epona from The Legend of Zelda), but since I suck I'll end up painting it to look like my favourite pony, Moonstone !

Is it made from clay? Did you start with an aluminium structure ? I'm so curious :satisfied:

Beautiful work! Personally I would go with more classes colors, but I’m a sucker for purple, too.
This is from a book cover, natural, yet a bit ethereal…. (Artwork from google)

That’s a lovely unicorn you’ve made  For the paintings since you can’t decide maybe try something more realistic but with a few bright colorful details? Like on the hooves or horn

It's made from Super Sculpey Polymer clay. I started with an aluminum wire frame (I actually looked up a picture of a horse skeleton and made it the size I wanted on my computer screen, then held up the frame so I could get the proportions right). Then I covered it with aluminum foil. I think if I were to do this again I wouldn't put aluminum foil on the legs, because the clay on the legs was pretty thin and I needed to add more in strategic locations to avoid cracking.

That's a great idea. I want to do something more fantastical but I don't want it to end up looking too gaudy.

I love that picture! Maybe I can do some blue/purple tinted white.

This is a beautiful piece, you have got some awesome talent. <3

Paint like Morning Morgan! I love the story of Morgan from the Serindipity book series and your sculpture reminds me a lot of him.

I forgot about these books! I like the hair, I might do silvery gray hair or something. AAA this is so hard lol.

i thought natural bay or gray with lighter blonde or gray mane and tail, horn darker at the base, and then the hooves would be purple. a bay body with light silver hair isn't normal but the colors are still natural, might be cool. you could sneak lavender into some of the natural parts, like the Morning Morgan above who seems a tiny bit lilac, but is still a natural color. Maybe lavender on the body could look like a reflection off the coat.

another idea: color match the paint but with purple hooves, and i don't know why i keep suggesting purple hooves. it's a great sculpture.

Oh, it's so pretty!! I'm not that artistic so I'm not sure what to suggest but I can't wait to see what you do! You did such a great job
