Can anyone recommend a good how to draw horses book? I used to draw them all the time but I'm having trouble getting back into it. I got a few from the library but the were a bit... lackluster.

I really need one that will break the anatomy/muscle groups down to basic shapes since that's how I draw. I have done life drawing in the past but I'm super rusty and I've only ever worked from objects/people.

Deviant Art has a lot of really great horse anatomy tutorials. I also find sitting at a petting zoo or farm and spending time sketching form live animals helps a lot too. You can also do a lot by drawing or sketching from stock photos from a simple google search. By utilizing the three things it's all books would cover and it's free. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions! I really am wanting a physical media tho. I can draw from my phone/computer but it's easy to get distracted. ^^; I'm not super into life drawing either, and I've never been good when I try to do it on moving objects lol.

If I know the title I might be able to get an interlibrary loan for cheap or free tho. And unless it's super rare cheap 2nd hand books are easy enough to get ahold of.

I did toy with getting the Little Pony Drawing Book but I thought I'd better brush up on my realism before jumping back into a cartoony style XD

That looks really promising! Thanks for the suggestion!

For literature on drawing animals, I would highly suggest The Art of Animal Drawing by Ken Hultgren!
It's got a lot of great stuff inside about skeleton construction of animals- lots of pages on horses in particular! The action analyses can help you to understand how horses move- which I find makes it easier to draw poses from the imagination. I also have a few horse breed encyclopedias- the pictures inside are generally good to study from!!!

Looks promising! I haven't had the energy to draw lately but I'll add it to my list :D
