I actually am more fond of these than the original retro Twilight this topic started with. To me, that one looked a little off (although still neat), but these look better. To me their design just fits together much better, and I'm actually pretty excited for these!

The G3 fan in me is squealing. Hopefully I'll have more money by September!

They're coming in September? Where did you see that? :)

Somewhere in one of your posts was a link to the Amazon page for these and I clicked on it and it said releasing "September 1st".

Granted, I'm not too familiar with toy release dates and whether or not that might be a placeholder.

Thank you Virelai.

.... While it's cool and cute, definitely... there's just something about this style that's not quite clicking with me. Something feels off about the eyes; I don't know quite what, exactly. The wings are too low and too far forward on the body (they're attached to the top of their shoulders, it looks like!)

It also looks like the heads are made out of a different plastic than the bodies, to me. I'm going by the pearly, shimmery shine you can see on their chests, and how it stops at their neckline.

Looking at them again, it also looks as if their tails are too low on their rumps. x_x;

I dunno. I guess this style just isn't for me. It almost looks like they're using fakie pony moulds, with the tail placement + face/eye shape. :/ To me, anyway. Like Skywishes, I'm going to wait until I see them in person. It's just not quite catching me in all these promo pics, which is a shame, because I like the idea of where they're going with this. I really would love to love it, I just have reservations... :sadpony:
So, after staring forever and looking back and forth from my ponies to these. I’ve edited just a couple and feel slightly better about them (still annoyed by wings/tails/manes...). But they’re missing the eye lid and brow G1’s and having removed that little bit has made the eyes seem just slapped on the heads. Also they made the hooves awkward, again. Having G3.5 flashbacks. D: Having some more definitions in the moulds would made these so much better. It’s like Hasbro is so close but so very far.

Seeing the new set has brought me up to lukewarm from "ugh, I hope not!" The unicorn head mold is horrible, but I don't hate the open-mouth head or the walking body. I still don't think it's very likely to be G5 though, I think this mold is based on the new G1 retro art, and it looks even more so with these new wing body molds.

I feel its more G3 then anything else. I don't care for Rarity much either.

For some reason I have a hunch this is g5 because it’s made by hasbro and yes it says retro version and such but I think they’re paying attention to everybody missing the retro style of ponies, example how they’re remaking 80s ones. I think maybe this could be a test run to see how people react. I feel like if this sells well enough and gets enough attention it could be g5. I think they are cute but I agree with some of you that it is strange. Kind of remind me of a fakie... but it seems to be a mix between g1 and g3 which is nice!

I hope so @ponycollector101

These might make good custom baits too. Its the only thing these six characters are good for these days. The symbols being a bit different from their G4 counterparts are neat. I wish Pinkie Pie had Fading Pink hair, so I could fade it to white and re-dye it. As it is, I'll just give her to charity. Applejack looks like a straight Dollymix.

I do think its interesting that they put G1 wings on a G3 body. I didn't notice at first since I'm so used to seeing G1 wings anyway. I don't think there is anything really G4 about these in terms of physical design.

I really would like to see new characters on these poses and I would like Lyra, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, Seaswirl, Luna, Celestia, Derpy and a few others, just because these moulds are so horsey. That's always been one of my biggest issues with G4.

I wonder what the hair and plastic quality are like? The hair looks a bit thin and cheap. I wonder if you can pop their heads off for cleaning and customizing?

Ooh, Pinkie Pie with white hair has always been a favorite look for me (especially her 1st G3 release!)

Their heads seem to be separate from the body, so I really hope they aren’t going to be that hard to remove. Imagine all the cute customs!

I agree! I love the fading pink hair, especially on g3s.

Yeah well, we all thought that with G3s too. :hmph::tongue:

To be honest, I don't think this is going to be G5 design.
But wait a minute, I would like to see them this way! Sadly with the success of G4 + if the leaks are true, Hasbro isn't planning to get back to it's roots with G5, they are going to rather try to make some modern show with big similiarities with G4. There was also many times stated they are trying to make the ponies less "horsy", which I don't quite understand why, but... well, ok.
It's quite sad. I like FiM storywise, but the toys are... meh.

It's true that they want the ponies to be less horsey (going for a g3 or g1tales direction?) in the story, but based on the concept art they seem to be wanting them to look more horsey. The hooves are more defined, they have fetlocks, the ears are more proportionate, about half of the drafts have longer snouts, etc. That's what gives me hope that G5 toys will be better than G4, especially for the first couple of years compared to recent ones, since they'll be trying to make a good impression.

I hope so! We'll see what they do. It would be nice to have more quality pony content but hey, at least we have the first 3 gens if there's no longer good content.
