EDIT: Rehaired update

I had an idea maybe earlier this year or maybe last year that if I ever come across a Basic Fun Gusty, I’ll make a Reverse Gusty with golden leaves. Well, it wasn’t happening so I asked for Christmas for a BF Gusty and some hair to make it. My wishes were answered and here we are!

So I did have a look at some BF Gusty customs after my idea came and one did already exist. I must link the artist because that is such a beautiful custom.
I didn’t want to feel like a copycat but my idea was different anyway with the golden leaves and different eye colour. It turns out a golden leaf Gusty already exists too and it’s Argentinian Gusty, Otoño

Anyway, so I got my Gusty, did a quick comparison thread and it was on to the custom. It was tricky removing the hair but I did it and I also learnt how to use a rehair tool (thank you for the tip in the chatbox, @DracoKat !)

So, here she is! Rusty Goldleaf! The leaves are not made with gold leaf, just gold Posca

When removing the leaves, thankfully they left a nice stain to trace over so I could repaint my leaves. Some looked a bit funny but it’s fine, I used what I had

Here she is with Euro Gusty:

I tried to style her hair to match Gusty’s forelock but it went a bit funny. The tail too, and it’s a bit shorter than intended even when I tried to redo it twice and with a template but she’s fine

I am pretty pleased with this custom, it must be one of my favourites. I know I’d probably never be able to get a proper Reverse Gusty but I managed to make my dream one!

She turned out so nice! The leaves are so smooth! What paint did you use?

Great job on the hairing too!
Thank you :flutter2:
I used my Posca pens but I put the paint onto a tiny tiny brush instead. It also helps I got a surprise magnifying lamp for Christmas too so I could see all the tips of the leaves better when painting with the tiny brush

You did a great job! I love the wisp of the forelock! I also love that you can put her in the box, that's awesome!

Thank you!
The forelock seemed to stick out more than I intended but I quite like how it looks too
Yeah, that is the coolest part! Plus, those leaves look so perfect! And the lovely brown eyes! :greenheart: :redheart:
The box is a pretty fun addition. When I look back over the pictures of the box I realised I didn’t even shut the lid properly
I thought of yellow eyes at first but then the leaves are already gold so then it was between orange and brown. I think brown was a good choice since it seems to go well with her colours and her name is “Rusty”
Shes so gorgeous!!! You did an amazing job!!! :O
Thank you! :lolpony:

She's a beauty! Her hair ornament really suits her, and I LOVE that the Basic Fun boxes are usable after opening. It's so fun to see a custom in a box like it was a new release pony.

An update about Rusty…

Her tail just never sat right with me. I knew how wrong the length was with being too short and it bothered me for ages but I just knew that it was too short and I didn’t have enough hair left to use. But I thought best to check so I had a look at the remaining carnival red hair I had and it turned out the last I had of it was enough! I was worried it won’t be thick enough but it was! So I replaced it and trimmed it to size. Then there was the mane. I knew I cut it really badly and it felt too long and I still wanted it accurate length. So I tried to trim it… it went very wrong. It was way too short and then also cut so badly, all wobbly and way shorter in places than it should have been

I felt I did something bad by doing that and it just wasn’t sitting right with me at all so I decided I’ll do a full rehair. I used the old tail and it got me to almost halfway of one side and then I had to wait for more to arrive. I decided that this time I’ll just have her hair longer than it should because the old tail that I used to start the mane off looked rather nice. Instead of going for 3.5inch for the mane I went for a safe 5, then I knew it’s not too short and it looked nice. Trying to trim it all evenly was so hard that I had to stop myself because I kept making it all wobbly again. Anyway, here she is! Now actually complete!

Yesss! That is a very elegant mane length for her. I love it.
