Meet Zidane. He’s a role playing character I’ve had since the 90s. He’s the Shadow Man with Egyptian origins. He was the pharaoh of his time.

First is a drawing of Zidane as a human so you know who I am trying to mimic. Modern and pharaoh. I used his tattoo as the pony’s symbol
He's an evil Shadow Man. He's inspired by the paranormal Shadow Men. These guys are entities that stands at the edge of a bed while you sleep. If you happen to see him, you'd see a dark figure in a brimmed hat and a trench coat. If you see him, he will strike paralyzing fear into you. You won't be able to move. (Read up on Shadow people, they're awesome).

My character is a small twist. He feeds off of fears (like how vampires feed from blood). He has powers to send fear into his prey, he has powers to manipulate nightmares, and he also has powers to control shadows. He walks among the shadows as well. His name is Zidane. He's thousands of years old. In his human life he was a Pharaoh ruling Egypt with a fierce hand. Then became a Shadow Man when the prayers to send him to the heavens upon death was misspoken and he fell instead, reborn into a Shadow Man.

In pony form, he's all black, with a glittering gold Hieroglyphics symbol. He wears a fedora style brimmed hat as the signature of all shadow men. You can see a drawing in my signature drawn by an amazing artist here: Stellaluna

and this is a drawing a friend made for me:

For the custom I did,I dyed Twilight black and quite pleased how the dye job came out. I cut her horn off and patched with epoxy- decided to give a star on the forehead since the dye didn’t match up. I made a pencil rubbing of the symbol to match best as I could on both sides. I used marker paint to paint the symbol. Other paints were cheap acrylics. I found the hat in the doll section of the craft store and it’s perfect.

He was fun to do

I absolutely love him. He looks so swank and mysterious. The subtle shading and brilliant gold symbols are awesome. Well done.

He turned out so good!!! I love his human design a lot and his pony form so dark and elegant. The dye job looks really good!! :ponylove:

I seal my ponies with a matt sealant spray

Your OC has translated into pony form very well. Nice paintwork!

do you spray all over the pony? Cover the mane and tail?

and thank you :)
I try not to cover the mane and tail but if I try to wash out but it doesn’t cause much of a problem. Try not to do it too close because it might go sticky. I make that mistake sometimes

I ordered a matte sealant that one paints on: Angelus Matte Acrylic Finisher from Amazon. I usually put too much on and make it tacky, plus it is a bit shiny, but not like a satin or true gloss finisher. anyway one thin coat dries very fast, tho it "cures" (whatever that means) in like a thousand hours.

edit: I'm going to have to use another sealant- Liquitex Professional Varnish. The Angelus stuff doesn't harm the pony, but just doesn't seem to work, i'll have to make a thread about it.

This is a really great custom. It's very unique. I am in love with it. The hat is an awesome touch.

He looks so cool! I'm really digging the paintjob on the legs.
I didn't know I needed to. What do I seal it with? and how?
I see Mr. Super Clear recommended most often, but there are plenty of acrylic sealers out there. A good bit of them have issues with them being sticky or yellowing over time, so just make sure you do your research. Ideally, you'd want to seal your pony before putting in the mane and tail, but if it's already done, just be sure to cover the hair and you should be good to go.

My dad had some paint sealer. I let him spray since he's more experienced. However, the gold looks splotchy now :(
I think Im going to paint over it in gold glitter to clean it up. Why not, he's a Pharaoh, glittery gold is his thing lol
