Hey guys. I need some extra fingers crossed and some good vibes sent for my boyfriends little puppy. (Quick back story. My best friend breeds Cane Corso’s and had recently had a litter, as a surprise I bought a pup from my friend for my boyfriend who was going to buy one himself anyhow. As of today the puppies are 7 weeks old.) Now fastforward to today.

So, tonight I got a panicked phone call from my best friend who was sobbing on the phone. Momma dog (Gemma) stepped on puppy (Lola) who is the runt of the litter and only weights 3 pounds and Gemma weighs 140 pounds. Now through her sobbing, I could hear the puppy screaming in the background. She tells me she’s called all the vet clinics around her and that they all want money up front before looking at her. (This is common practice if a clinic doesn’t know you, which most people don’t know.) So I tell her to pack up the baby and drive out to the emergency clinic I work at and I will meet her there.

She gets there with Lola and she’s quiet but clearly in a log of pain and had facial swelling and blood everywhere. Because I deal with this at work daily, I take Lola from my friend and I take her right back to the doctor on duty who starts working on her right away.

Once she had an IV set, pain medication on board and a physical exam and cleaning up from the blood. It turns out she may have a neck injury, dislocated jaw or a jaw fracture. All of which is difficult to determine on the “normal” X-ray machines because she’s so tiny. So she’s been admitted into the hospital for the night to continue on IV and pain relief. In the morning the dental and neurology specialist will be looking at her.
We are all hoping for a dislocated jaw of all the things because it’s not an invasive surgery at all. Because she’s so younge and small it may be some time before anything else can be done for her.

So, we just really need some good vibes sent our way and for little Lola. She’s a sweet little puppy and frankly, I can’t handle another tough decision so soon after Zephyr.

Lots of pony hugs and crossed hooves for the little pup

@my little pony collector & @Ology thabks you. She’s still not out of the woods yet.

I got an update from the ER doctor caring for her this morning. She’s being well managed on pain meds and IV fluids. She ate last night but her blood work showed low glucose levels, which could be a result of shock and stress. So she’s being treated for that and being monitored closely for that.

Now we are waiting to hear from the dental specialist. Which she will probably call me after her appointments are done for the morning, provided she hasn’t changed how she does her schedule since I was last at work 1 year ago (today actually).

My stress and anxiety is so high right now. I’m constantly just crying because my eyes betray me and let tears fall even though I don’t want it. Lmao

:( Ohh. Poor sweet baby. Lots of well wishes, snuggles, kisses and a full recovery for the little darling.

Thanks LAW. I’m really hoping for a good outcome for this munchkin. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about her and not knowing what’s happening.

Well guys. It looks like I’m saying goodbye to another puppers tonight.

The doctor got back and not only does she have a severely broken mandible (left and right) but she’s also got hydrocephalus (spinal fluid build up in her brain cavity). As the doctor (who knew Zephyr well and knows I just said bye to him as well) told me all this she and I both bawled.

So because of her injury and medical condition and size for her age the doctors don’t feel she is a good candidate for surgery. Aside from the fact that she’s require more than 6 surgeries before 1 year old. My boyfriend and I don’t feel it’s fair to prolong her suffering for us. So the three of us are going to be going in later tonight to see her and say goodbye. My heart is so broken for her but also my boyfriend and my best friend who babies her and got her to this point.

This is truly the worst part of pet ownership. Even if it’s just a few minutes, days, months to years. It sucks.

I am so so so sorry

Ugh!! This is so awful to hear. I just logged on and was reading through the thread hoping it would improve then when I saw your update my heart just sank. It's such a hard thing to go through and you're right, it doesn't matter how long you love them. Once they're in your heart whether it's a month or years it's still painful. Sending hugs your way!

Thanks everyone. It’s been an extremely rough night. My poor boyfriend was so devastated, first time I’ve ever seen him sob. It broke my heart, I don’t know why but when men you love cry it’s heartbreaking.

It’s 1:15am now and we had gotten to the clinic just after 9pm. We spent a few hours saying good bye and giving her love. My friend and her daughters came as well. So, Lola was extremely loved even in her short 7 weeks.

All your thoughts and love have been very much appreciated. Thank you all again.
