New G1/G4 Mini Crossover Comic

I love this I've had this Idea for years
 
I just told my little sister the news about these comics and her reaction was great.

Me: “The FiM comic series is ending after 9 years with issue #102.”
Her: “What? No!!”
Me: “But they’re ending it with a miniseries where the M6 join with the G1 ponies to help fight the witches at the Volcano of Doom.”
Her: “AHODBEOFBWEBFJJWBDJEBD. YES.”

So yeah, we’re definitely both excited for this, heh. I’m already imagining the potential dialogue in my head.

The comics are ending?!
In a way, that’s good because when they first started to appear, I didn’t get them but I was interested. Since it’s stopping at #102, I know now how many issues there are so I know how many there is to catch up with if I wanted to

It’s pretty cool to see they’re bringing back the originals in a some way official way :smile:

There’s also many other mini series and even another long line that ran for a while called Friends Forever, there’s a lot of content to potentially catch up on!

Maybe that was a series I once saw in a comic shop instead. The name sounds a lot more familiar
 
Is it just me, or does that last cover look really familiar art style wise?

I'm excited, but mostly 'cause Firefly's there & I want her to have her RAMC personality. :coolpony:
 
Those are adorable. I especially love the ducklings, fox, fawn and sheep. :ponylove:
 
That first cover is amazing! Especially how excited the Apple Jack’s look, Rainbow Dash and Firefly too :D
The second one they look a bit more g3 than g1 to me but still cute, and the last one is really pretty :satisfied:
The storyline of the newest team asking the originals to help fight the big bad guy makes me think of Power Rangers lol (in a good way, I used to love power rangers)

A G1 and G4 crossover? Sounds amazing!

There's are a few questions though...

1. Volcano of Doom? Does this mean we will see the Gloom witches again? There really isn't any reason for them to come back unless they are just going to be antagonists for the pony's to defeat. They really only made 2 appearances and never came back since. A 3rd appearance if you count the comic. Aside from that, I would have settle for new villains rather than old ones. They aren't terrible villains, but there are better. If they are coming back, I would have settled for Draggle getting redeemed, but that doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon.

2. How will the G1 and G4 ponies interact? I'm hoping it isn't just one big potshot of "G4 is better and G1 is inferior". That's just going to be annoying. A user already mentioned how Hasbro treats G1 and just pokes fun at them for not being THE messiah that G4 is. I get the 1st generation of MLP wasn't perfect, but I wouldn't call it insulting. So I'm hoping both sides are treated respectfully.

3. Will G1 and G4 fans have to be familiar with both source materials? For further clarification, will both fans have to be familiar with both generations? This includes the TV series and comics. I'm familiar with G1, haven't read the comics though. I'm slightly familiar with G4, but dropped out around season 6. I have seen a few episodes of the newer seasons here and there, but I'm missing a bit of context during the in between. I also have not read the comics. So how familiar will I have to be with G4 to understand the references and episodes? This also counts towards G1 btw.

4. And finally, how well will it capture the characters of G1? I'm sure everyone is familiar with the mane six and their personality traits, especially how over the years they have evolved. G1? Well, character is a little lacking. It doesn't mean there isn't, it just isn't fleshed out well. So will they take a new direction with these old characters? Or will they make new ones while being faithful? Or an answer that I mostly fear, mane six 2.0.

Aside from that, I have faith in this 5 part comic mini series. I'm sure it won't please everyone, myself included, but I will enjoy it to its fullest disregarding the hiccups it may make. And besides, the people working on this comic mini series are G1 fans themselves, so I'm not too worried.

Although the front cover has me a bit concerned. Not the artstyle, that looks fine, but the supposed G4 counterparts. Posey being Fluttershy's G1 counterpart makes sense and Surprise being Pinkie Pie's counterpart is also perfect. But what about the other's? Twilight, Firefly, Glory, and Applejack. They only ever appeared in "Rescue At Midnight Castle", after the pilot we never see them again. They do appear in the comics, if you count that. In "Escape From Catrina" we see the baby versions of Gusty and Surprise, and in the MLP: Movie (1986), we see the babies all grown up. I know that the babies ponies still appear even after the movie, but in the comic it may be because they're clones who appeared after the ponies passed by a magic mirror. Then again, I always associated TV shows and comics apart from one another because of their different continuity. The point is, whatever did happen to RAMC ponies? Either they are long gone, in a different part of Ponyland, or all cooped up in that castle. Honestly, I don't know. So Looking at the cover, It is rather odd so see them here. I suppose it isn't out of place, just strange. Otherwise, just a nitpick and nothing bothersome.

I m u s t h a v e i t. My heart still wants a big huge crossover between all the generations, or something like G5 is doing where it creates lore for them (like a timeline or different geographical regions for different generations) but this is pretty cool.
 
I am looking forward to this. I don't have any comics I read regularly and as a mostly G1 fan didn't really get into the FIM too much but I would like to get these. Guess I gotta find me a comic book store before October LOL I'm interested to see what they do :)

If you type in Mlp g1/g4 crossover comics you can find places that sell them.
