When Marnie Was There is up for an Oscar for Animation Feature. It so deserves this nomination. I absolutely love this film. It is a beautiful animated film. Yay I am so excited. I remember when I first watched it I was stunned for like 20 minutes. It made me tear all up. Got any Oscar Nominations you are happy about?

Haven't seen it yet, but I love Studio Ghibli

I love everything they put out, but had totally missed Mernie until you mentioned it in a PM, tula. I got a copy, now all I need is time to watch it! They really should get more animation in the Oscars, I'd far rather watch animation than reality. :D

I have not seen this one but I shall have to hunt it down to watch. Anything by him is great.

I don't love everything they put out. Was not fond of Laputa, Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle or Nausiica personally.

I still wanna see
Grave of the Fireflies
Return of the Cat
Porco Rosso and
When the Wind Rises

My all time favorites are
Kiki's Delivery Service
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Pom Poko
Secret World of Arietty

They always have such beautiful, heartfelt and amazing stories, lush worlds and incredible music.

Nausiica was not my favorite either, but R2 likes it and so does his dad. I did not care as much for Spirited Away as most. It was okay, but I looooooved Ponyo!!! Secret World is a favorite of mine and I want to see that one Grave of the Fireflies too.

I actually saw When Marnie Was There last night. I love movies that keep me guessing and that one did. Very interesting story and characters. I won't say more than that so I don't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it. I've seen Grave of the Fireflies, it's very good, but very sad. Secret World is a favorite of mine, so is Spirited Away. I wasn't a fan of Ponyo. Princess Mononoke is a pure work of animation art, but to this very day, I still don't know how I feel about it (and have no clue why, something in it must strike too close to home). I liked Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Moving Castle. I haven't seen Nausiica, When the Wind Rises, or Laputa. I've only seen a little of Pom Poko and Return of the Cat, but I want to see the full movies some day. I have no desire to see Porco Rosso (don't like pigs).

I love Studio Ghibli! Their movies are so good, they're really artistic. I so agree with Snowy Cat about Princess Mononoke, the forests and spirits are amazing! :flutter2:

Yo fun fact, the animation program Studio Ghibli uses was bought by Niconico and at the end of the month they will be having it free to download for everyone, I think the program is called Opentoonz. It was also used to animate the show Futurama

I finally got around to purchasing and watching Princess Mononoke. I was a little shocked by the violence though as most of the Ghibli movies I have seen were not that violent. Thank goodness I watched it before the kids. Heads flying and legs flying was something else to see. LOL I think it would have not been a good movie for my youngest niece. She will probably need to get a little older. I liked it though. It had a good clear message though about hatred that I liked.

A good one for your neice would be My Neighbor Totoro (that's my daughter's fave) and yes Studio Ghibli can be very violent. But its never senseless, and its never there just for shock value. @tulagirl
