WHAT YEAR IS IT?? ::coughs out some dust and pulls a leaf out of her hair::

Well, it's been a hot second, but I used to be fairly active around here in the earliest days of the Trading Post, if I recall correctly! I guess I was away too long because I had to create an account again, but I can't tell you all how grateful I am that nobody took my username.
I grew up with ponies in the 80's and 90's, but in 1999 I rediscovered them, and the internet, and eBay, and the communities forming around MLPTP, the Arena, and other places my files are too dusty to recall until someone reminds me. I went to some of the earliest pony meets like Pony Palooza 1999 at the Delaneys' home, participated in the 50 Most Beautiful Ponies contest (brainchild of my 20-year-bestie Spoosh), Church of the Holy Mint on Card Mimic, and Wolfie's Photo Hunts, and shook up the fledgling customizing hobby with offbeat characters like my dragon flutters and the monstrous Chimera. I've been away a long time, because we moved to a place where there wasn't room for my ponies. Then we moved again, and I never unpacked them, because I had taken up sewing and cosplay and filled up my spaces with those. But recently Spoosh and I dragged my tubs out to look at them, and I decided I couldn't just put them back this time. They're out, and taking over my life while I groom them, do restorations, try my unsteady hands at customizing again, and try to catch up on what I've missed in G1 collecting. The findings so far: 1) HQG1C is awesome, and 2) HOLY MOLY ponies got expensive!

If any of you are oldsters like me I would love to do some reminiscing with you! And if you're hip and with-it, please feel free to fill me in on memes and anything hilarious that happened while I was away. ;)

I just started up an Instagram which will be dedicated to sharing photos of pony memories and projects I have lined up. If you're interested in that, I'm jellybeanpony over there, and it has a link to my Insta where I've shared a lot of my costumes and crafting over the years, too!
(While I'm thinking about it, does anyone have advice on the protocol for posting really old photos from pony meets that have other people in them? I personally love seeing the pictures others took of events and don't mind them being posted on the internet - as a convention-goer for over a decade, I expect and welcome shared photos. And I don't recall anyone ever objecting to them being shared back in the day, but I'm out of touch with most of those folks and they might not even be in the community anymore.)

Ok this is long enough! Thanks for reading! And may I say, major kudos to everyone who has kept this place alive and working for so long! It's so cool to be able to come back and see who might still be around!

All my best,

dang that's quite the hiatus! wishing you a warm welcome back! :redheart: i find all the stuff surrounding the early beginnings of the mlp community online so fascinating, cool to hear you were there for it.
hope to see you around more, and btw i love your ponysona! kind of wanna draw her :lolpony:

Thank you Jar! :D I hope I'll be able to share some fun photos and old artwork and things soon.
I'm glad you like Jellybean! I always felt like she fit the bill just perfectly.. sounds like my name, named after a treat like so many ponies, but somehow a name and candy theme that Hasbro had never used! You're welcome to try drawing her if that would be fun for you! I need to try it again too.. it's been about 20 years since I last drew her and I like my old style but the execution could use an update! XD

Welcome back pony friend! I look forward to hearing some more of your stories and seeing photos!

Ha ha welcome back from the pastures. ;p

I had to laugh at some of your memories of days of the past because I had forgotten about a few until you mentioned it. For example The Church, I died a little at the core memory that was unlocked upon reading that.

I mean some of the bigger things you’ve missed over the years likely happened over the pandemic. Such as a non-collector (dirty reseller) getting his grubby hands on a Repunzel and telling everyone that because (at the time) his was the only one available on EBay he “controlled the market” and it was okay to open bidding at $10,000usd for her. Mostly laughable things like that. There was a great storage locker that was found filled with many MOC/MIB ponies on Storage Wars, they went to eBay and many of us were able to get some great ponies.

Anyways, happy to see you’ve found your way back into the herd. I look forward to seeing you around and getting to know you more. :)

Hi! I, too, am a collector of original gen, but this is my first year in the online community. Welcome back to the hobby! Look forward to comparing notes - and congrats for collecting tubs full BEFORE they became insanely expensive. Lol!

Hi! We're never met, but welcome back!

Hey there!

Im glad youre back even though we dont know each other! lol - It is very nice to meet you and hope to see you around!

Hi there and welcome back! I too have recently come back from something of a lengthy hiatus and there's at lot of moments where it feels like I still have a lot of catching up to do. In fact, I was around back then but I don't remember the church of Mimic thing at all! The most I can remember is adoptables being made and claimed like hotcakes on the TP and I vaguely remember the Hoof Brigade or whatever it was called but I came into the online community just as the G2 hate was dying down. The remaining G2 slam pages and defense pages are still a very vivid memory of my first steps into the online pony world though.

I would so love to see those pony meet photos you have, but I'm not too sure on photo etiquette either. I actually made a post last night on this same board about how I came across photos from my first pony meet and wanting to reconnect with the folks in the photos, but decided against sharing them right away to respect people's privacy. So I'd like to hear more about how to go about this as well. I know on Jewel's pony meet site there are photos of people who attended, but seeing as some of them have faces that were edited out (I'm I'm recalling that right) it would seem that she must've asked each person if they were ok with it.

All my best,
I just came back a few months ago, too! I was really active in the 2006-2007 era, and part of 2008 (going for my PhD killed my pony-ness for a bit, and then ...life).

Welcome back!
I was so grateful that there was a place I could come back to after all that time. The moderators and @MustBeJewel are amazing for sticking through people coming and going and keeping this place 'warm' for us all to return to, aren't they?

Yay! I'm figuring out how the quotes features work! I don't remember THAT much about TCotHMoCM except that it was funny and the legend lasted a long time before an extant example was found. There was also Church of Evil Dead Pony for the more underground pony personas :lolpony:
Wow! That's some reseller greed right there! I've been seeing that on eBay just over the last month, too.. really stunned at what some people are asking, even for ponies who look like they got dragged through a bush backwards! They are definitely not "just toys" anymore. It's kind of fun to search for "Vintage My Little Pony" on eBay, sort by highest price, and go "Wow, REALLY??" LOL. I wonder how long they tend to sit on the market before those sellers reprice them. It's like basically having your collection on public display and hoping one day someone will give you the moon for one of them.

Hi! I, too, am a collector of original gen, but this is my first year in the online community. Welcome back to the hobby! Look forward to comparing notes - and congrats for collecting tubs full BEFORE they became insanely expensive. Lol!
Hi and thank you! I hope you're enjoying it a lot! YES, I'm grateful I didn't sell any more of my ponies than I did, in 2009 or so when I put them into storage. My buddy Spoosh was so kind to list some on eBay for me at the time, and I still have his final tallies for how the listings went, and the highest net price of any one of them was $16 for Skippety Doo. My common and no-country Daddy Sweet Celebrations netted $13 each. Mom and Baby went for less than $6 each after fees. SS Angel (though her flocking had rubs) went for only $6. Fortunately most of them are still with me, because my eyes keep popping out of my head when I see how much it would cost to replace them right now!
On the other hand, I was really lucky to collect as early as I did. Many of my ponies cost very little or were even given to me by friends who found them while thrifting. So I'm very very grateful for that and just find prices over time to be an interesting subject to explore.

I too have recently come back from something of a lengthy hiatus and there's at lot of moments where it feels like I still have a lot of catching up to do. In fact, I was around back then but I don't remember the church of Mimic thing at all!
Welcome back to you, too! I'm sure I'll be the same way. I'm curious what things you remember from those days!

I would so love to see those pony meet photos you have, but I'm not too sure on photo etiquette either. I would so love to share them! I just dredged up a really thorough writeup I did on TJ's Pacific Northwest pony meet in 2002, with photos, that I had forgotten I wrote, and it was a joy to revive the memories. I could edit out faces, but then it might also be bad form to include their online handles, and then sharing group photos would be kind of pointless, right? Welcoming anyone's input on this etiquette!

Welcome back!

Yes, 100%! Absolute champions! :twohearts::rainbow:

Thank you all for the warm, warm welcome! I already feel at home, and I hope I'll make interesting contributions to the pony content diet!

do you know what episode/what season? i REALLY wanna see that
man, i remember when that happened, i wish i coulda snagged one, but i wasn't able to watch this as easily as i could have today, also, that part time pay check didnt help either lol

Hello! Welcome! I wasn't around then, but welcome back! More pony friends, yay!

Welcome back to the pony world! I only joined here a couple of years ago but G3 was my time. I like reading all stories about times I didn’t exist in, those pony Church stuff sounds pretty interesting. I would definitely read a thread on pony stories of pony past!

With the Storage Wars they speak of, I didn’t know about it until I saw it come up here too and yet sometimes Storage Wars is on TV at my place, I must have missed the episode but we do have a video thankfully. This whole storage container looks incredible.
do you know what episode/what season? i REALLY wanna see that
I have no idea to be honest but I’ve seen this:

Thank you for the welcome, GracefulSlumber and StormMaeker! I'm watching that video clip now and oh wow.. oh wow I'm dyyyying .... It's like a time capsule....

@Jellybean I recognized your signature immediately!! :D :D :D Welcome back! Can you believe in all this time, I never really left? LOL.

I was a contestant on @Spoosh's Pony Survivor game when I was still a teenager (I was really bad at it LOL), and "Evil Dead Pony" and I are still friends on social media! Oh gosh, so many memories in this thread! <3

I recently found a ton of things I had saved in the very early 2000's by means of storage CD's. Far too much to share here, but maybe some of these banners will look familiar? ;)

Welcome back! ;)

@MustBeJewel Yesss! I remember you too! How cool that you've stayed all this time and you've kept in touch with EDP! I also hear you have been doing great things for the pony community! I would so love to attend one of your meets but MD is allll the way on the other side of the country from me. They look like a total blast!

Wowwww, I remember a lot of those banners! Especially "You paid HOW MUCH?" I wish I could remember who made it! Are you sure you can't share some more? ;D

How could I have forgotten about Pony Survivor? I'm going to have to ask him about that!

Those animated signatures were Pinwheel's? Is that the same Pinwheel I'm thinking of that I met at Pony Palooza 1999? I remember those signatures were a big trend!

The sites I remember most are the ones I had written down in my old notebook I kept for a little while to help me remember who was who around the community, and then later the Pony Folks section of my old website, where I made little drawings of every pony whose site I linked to. I need to find somewhere I can share those, they're still pretty cute! The page had TJ & Tabi's Piece of the Pony Rainbow, @Spoosh's 50 Most Beautiful Ponies Contest, Shadowfire/Orin's "Pony Pony!", The Delaneys' Rainbow Connection, Steamer (one of the only guys we knew of in the community at the time), IceFeather's The Ice Palace, Lavendar Lace's (Brooke's) page, PsiVampyr's Spectral Menagerie, Baby Gloomy's customs, Earthy's Dark Little Corner, Sugarberry's Basil Meadow, Underwater with Wavedancer (Candice), Digital Duckie's Cutthroat Island, and SailAway's Harbor (parts of this site are actually still on the web and boy are they a trip down memory lane for me! She actually lived in the same city as me, I found out, so we got together for pony fun a few times before I moved).

Here's what I remember most about SailAway's Harbor: The MLP Cafe! I actually made a contribution to the menu that was too late to be added, but I still have it, lol. Fakie cola! MMMmm, refreshing!

.... yeah, we all found a lot of ways to amuse ourselves back then.
