Been living at the doctors the last few weeks. My oral surgery infections in my jaw. Now I am laid d up with the beginning of a Cold or worse Bronchus.
My carpal tunnel makes it so hard to do anything right now.

And to top it all off my Poor Great Dane Diesel is sick again. I am so scared he my get to the point where he is hurting or suffering and will have to be put down. I would never do this unless it was the only way. He is still eating and doing fairly ok but he has given me so many scares the last few days. I really don't know what to do about this.

The vet said as long as he is eating and not crying out in pain that he think he will be ok. He is on special food now which I can't really afford 65.00 a bag and his meds cost more then mine.
I'd still move heave and earth to keep him with me in good health and comfort as Long as I can.

He just turned 10 I am hoping whatever higher power will give me a few more years with him. I tend to adopted Older animals what some call the heart breakers.

I may not have them long and yes they do break your heart but someone got to love the older ones they need someone too.

He has another appointment next week for blood work and his yearly. I hope something can be found as to why he seem to be so low.

How does everyone else deal with issues such as this I am honestly wondering.

I am sorry you are dealing with this and your puupy is not feeling well. It is so stressful dealing with an ill pet. I think the worst part for me is theycan't tell you what hurts... I currently have a 14 year old cat that adopted me 12 years ago. He has a big cancer tumor that showed up on his left cheek/jaw about a year ago. I had to make the choice to not have surgery, as it was too cost prohibitive... so the tumor has been growing, and growing and is quite laerge now. He only recently has started loosing weight, though he does eat and drink regularly. I am beginning to think the time to take him in is coming swiftly. It is hard to choose what is best for both the health and well-being of a pet, and also for one's bank account. But I try to remember that Cyrano was a stray when we found each other. I have given him a great, loving home for 12 years. He has lived in 4 states with me, and traveled more than 3000 miles. My job is to enjoy him while I still can and pay close attention to his quality of life so any suffering is kept to a minimum.

Hang in there and know you aren't alone.

Big hugs, Ology. Having owned more than a few beautiful Danes, I know your heartbreak. They just don't have the lifespan of smaller dogs, but they have such big hearts, I just don't know why it is they couldn't just live forever. All I can tell you is to love him unconditionally while you have him. Don't worry about tomorrow, because you have no control over what will happen. The stress can eat you alive and make you sicker. Just enjoy him and let the river of life run where it may. Every day he's with you is joy to both of you. When his time comes, and he has to say goodbye, he'll tell you. Until then, just love him.

I'm so sorry CJ for Cyrano as well. I deal with a lot of older animals, so I know how painful it is to see them going downhill. To be honest, at 12, it might have been kinder to spare him the surgery anyway. Cats have problems with anesthesia as it is, a sick one more so. You probably were kinder to spare him that. I think it is the most wonderful thing when an owner puts their pets needs first, even when it is gutting to do so. I hope Cyrano manages to buck up and have a little health before he proceeds on his journey. He will take with him the memory of you, his best friend, to always keep his thoughts happy.

Thanks guys D and I were at my parents most of the weekend. My sister losing the baby and all we went to see her. She is doing ok. D started getting a bit sicker there. We are home and he ate really good tonight. He asleep on his big bed and all.

I just hope Tuesday comes quick for his check up. I use the Top vet in my area very nice and has always treated every pets great. So Tuesday was as early as I could get.

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time, Ology. *hugs* Diesel is lucky to have had such a loving pet parent, and so many years filled with so much life and love.

Similarly to CJ, I had a cat which I adopted (The shelter saw me coming a mile away and convinced me he was the brother of the cat I wanted to adopt, so I took both of them regardless of how true it was or wasn't) 9 years ago and just a few months ago, he developed an inoperable malignant tumor next to his heart. Every day he hung on broke my heart over and over again, until I made the decision to do what was best for him. Romy was a troublemaker, and a loudmouthed, warranty-voiding kind of cat, but he was also a complete love and I loved him dearly despite the holes he burned in my wallet (and other things). I was so upset with his passing that I haven't even mentioned it until now. It's still hard to even think about.

Regardless of whether a pet is sick or well, young or old, all we can do is love them unconditionally and show them we love them every day, and never give them a moment to ever doubt it. <3

Hugs to everyone feeling the loss of a furry loved one. having just had to put a little dog down weeks ago, I know this sting. I have a dog now that is clinging to life, but knowing what a horrible life he had before he got here, I am happy knowing we at least brought some joy to his life. Maybe he can struggle through. Time will tell. Either way, he'll be loved.

I am just worried about the medical cost. D meds cost so much I do anything for him. But losing my job and the SSI has not kicked in they are still "reviewing my case" make me worry about how to buy what I need for him. I got to come up with 65.00 soon for his meds. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm truly sorry, Ology. I have two dogs that are sick as well. Wolfer and Snowpuff , both, have colds. I hope I dont have to put both down. I have them both since they were puppies (2 years ago). I bet that is what happened with Diesel. Started with a small illness then go on with it. May God let him stay in Earth with you.

Hey pro tip: Check out the ingredients in the special dog food, write them down, go to a store that sells specialty pet food and show them the ingredient list and ask if they have anything with those exact ingredients. It's cheaper and it's also the same thing,

I remember when one of my frogs was in her last days, she got really old and she just started slowing down. It was really hard but in the end I was kind of happy to see her go because she didn't have to suffer anymore. Not really sure how that helps though :\

Good tips! Also ask the store about discounted broken bags. Quite often bags of feed get torn during the unloading process and the store will sell these at a discounted rate. Quite often they won't have lost any of their contents, but they're sold cheaper because they're 'ugly'.

Also, rather than buying the pet store, you might try calling your local feed stores. They sometimes sell the higher end feed, but at a lower cost. Doesn't hurt to hunt around.

Lastly, I know you have touched many of us with your kindness and thoughtful gifts. Would you be willing to allow us to help you by maybe posting your Paypal account and letting those willing to donate some money towards Diesel's medications?

I'm so sorry Ology! I love my great dane and can't imagine losing him. He is getting old though, so I will soon have to go through what you are going through. And CJ, I feel your pain too because I had an old cat that I couldn't take to the vet because my family was poorer than dirt at the time and it broke my heart to put him down.

I wish you lots of love for you and Diesel. Sometimes when things are tough it helps me to mentally focus myself on something simple about my surroundings (Diesel's color and shape, the way he looks at you, the way he makes you happy) and it helps me to block out the heavy weight surrounding and depressing me. I don't know if that helps at all, but I wish you well.

Aww Bunny that is very kind of you to say. I guess if anyone did want to help they could pm me but I would not just ask for money. But any help would be good.

D has another Doctors app on Friday. He is doing better it was stomach issues and he seems to be over most of it. I am happy to say he has been moving around more but you can still tell his hips hurt. His (I cant remember the meds) Joint meds have been double to two pills in the morning and two at night. I have been looking for a cheaper version of the food he eats from the vet. The closest one is still rather high but I plan to keep looking.

He back on allergies pills again and has some cream from a small cut on his tail.

My aunt who rescues dog said to try and give him some cooked eggs once or twice a week. I may start doing that it would help I think. He also eats plain oatmeal when his stomach is upset. Its is interesting to see a Dog as big as him sat on the sofa with me feeding him warm oatmeal with a spoon. I some times put just a tiny tiny bit of sugar in his oatmeal the doctor said that would not hurt but not to go over board. Also they think the chew bones he loves maybe messing his stomach up as he gets older. I am tiring to find some all natural chew bones for him he wont eat anything that is smoked.

So that is about where it is with him. At least for now I am feeling better so I can care for him more. Got more Oral stuff coming up oh fun.

That's a great idea evil bunny foo foo! Let's all help ology if you can!

YAYS! Let me ask the mods a question about rules, and I'm going to set up something...

Ok I need some tissues you guys are making me cry. This is one of the nice things ever. thank you marble and bunny and everyone else. D thanks yall too.

I have spoken with the mods, and if anyone would like to donate a little bit of money to help Ology pay Diesel's med costs and vet bills, it is completely allowable for you to do so. Just email me and I'll forward you her Paypal info.

You've always been so sweet and generous, Ology! Let us show you how much we appreciate our kind spirit!

UPDATE:
Diesel my Great Dane had another Vet visit today. He has been put on a higher dose of medicine for allergies and he had a skin irritation. He had a stomach flu which he will get over hopefully soon. He also was given more meds for his hips.

I am hoping this might be the last visit for a bit. D is resting comfortably and hopefully will be ok soon.

I am so sorry about your boy Ology it is so hard when they are sick.

We lost Koori back in August and it had just been a long hard battle for about a year. They tell you when they've had enough you just have to listen. It is heartbreaking and difficult but in the end when their bodies are failing them it becomes a blessing. I know how you feel it is very difficult.

If you are willing to try Calendula Tea for his skin, you just make it up like a normal cup of tea let it cool and sponge it over the skin. I have seen dogs with red raw skin from allergies come good just doing this but it is one of those won't hurt things. The other thing would be to ask the vet about probiotics, it doesn't have to be the expensive powdered ones, we often just give the dogs yakult.

I hope Di picks up soon and everything else resolves itself too.

Does anyone know of a online site that sales Holistic treats. D has a bad allergy to something in the milkbone he loves so much, I have tried other brands but they are breaking the bank. My aunt said se will teach me her home made dog treats all natural and nothing to make a dog sick. She has several dogs with allergies like my boy. But that trip is a long time coming, Or does anyone know Any recipes to bake treats that wont hurt him. Some thing with out corn meal.
