On Wednesday and Thursday my girlfriend and I moved all of our worldly possessions and we are now the proud residents of a 3-bedroom, 2-bath duplex (with a fenced back yard for the dog-dog). My muscles are sore and there are way too many boxes to unpack, but it's ours!

Right now I'm focusing on getting stuff in the general areas where they belong and I'll tidy up later. What I'm most excited about is finally having a pony room! (Well, combination library / pony room / game room, but still.) How do y'all like to display your herd? Do you have any tips or tricks for maximizing the ponies displayed?

Nice! Yay for having room for your ponies. Plus games, cool! Are you talking about video games or board games?

I don't have a big enough collection for a pony room, but I've heard good things about the Ikea Billy shelves... I know a lot of collectors swear by them. When my husband and I can afford it (and when we have the space for it :D), I'm going to put my ponies in some type of antique china hutch, but I have a small enough collection that they would all fit just fine... for a bigger herd, that probably wouldn't work. Unless you could buy more than one, but that would be hard to find enough matching-ish pieces.

I would suggest getting risers if you haven't already! I have several three-step plastic risers that are supposed to be used in your kitchen cabinets for displaying spices, but they work perfectly for ponies. I have seen other people make their own too, but I don't have the patience for that. ;)

Your dog is super cute too... is he part (or full?) husky?

It's probably gonna wind up being a library / pony / video game room. We are affectionately referring to it as the "Nerd Room". Got my SNES and N64 all hooked up and Pokémon posters on the walls.

Ooh, risers are a great idea that I hadn't thought of; thanks!

And yep, Leto is 50% husky, 50% malamute, and 100% goofy. :D I grew up with Malamutes and have a huuuuge weakness for Northern-breed dogs.

Leto is a handsome baby! I wanna snuggle that lovely fur!

Shadow boxes are a fun way to display small Ponies or cute accessories. You can get them cheap at thrift stores and paint them how you want. I also like open ended shelving so you can see more of the items on the shelf.

Oh your dog is freaking adorable! I'm so excited for you to have a pony room finally, I am longing for the day that I will have one too. I know when I do my biggest concerns will be dust and sun fading. I think heavy blinds and some sort of closed shelving will be ideal. I know there is plastic display boxes but it would be super expensive to get enough to hold an entire collection if you have a large herd. Make sure you post pictures of whatever you decide to do!

Leto is a cutie!

If I could get any kind of pony room I would want I would get shelves with glass doors so no dust could enter the ponies. And ofc some shading for the windows so no sunburn either :). I think shelves that can be stuck into the wall are the best for displaying ponies and if the shelves are deep you couls build "stairs" to each shelves so you could see each pony better.

Yea I have to agree if I was doing a pony room it would be shelving units covered in glass or plexy to keep the dust off of my ponies. There would be no special lighting put into the display cases so as to not fade the ponies and break the plastic down or dull the color. No window light and a dehumidifier would be on my list.

I cannot recommend the IKEA billy bookcases enough. They're fairly inexpensive, but they go together and hold up better than something you'd get at, say, Walmart. There are also many sizes, so it's easy to customize for your space. Best of luck with the setup and unpacking.
