Hi! So today I picked up a small collection of G1 ponies from a mother who contacted me through my newspaper ad. It came with this Euro Moondancer:

Now don't be horrified by how dirty she is, I haven't brought out the magic eraser yet. She's unfortunately got her mane cut and tail trimmed though.

The first question I wanted to ask was; Should I rehair her? I'm from Sweden so I don't think she's super rare over here, and chances are I'll run into more during my pony-hunting journey. I am, however, very new to the hobby so let me know if this is an absolute no-no.

The second question is; Does anyone know a color match for her purple streak, and if so where to buy it?

Lighting is bad but I hope you get the idea. ;-;"

If you have answers for either of the questions please comment below! Thank you!

Hello! Rehairing does lower the value, if you do decide just make sure to let the buyer know if you sell her. It isn’t a no-no persay, I think it’s more preference. You could take hair from the tail and just do the sections that need it for the mane, and get a new donor tail from another pony with the same color. The second thing is to redo all of it. I know dollyhair is a popular one for color matching, however they are USA based. Shipping might be an issue. Is your country accepting international packages right now? I think there is a hair supplier Europe, however I don’t know if they have color matches available. It’s called Retro dolls uk. You could also do an alternative rehair if you want to keep her, and use things like yarn if you can’t get the hair for it.

You can use either a needle and thread, or an exacto knife with the blade removed and a needle with the eye cut at an angle. The needle method takes longer but you can finish it without glue, while the other method is quicker bit you need to finish with a strong glue. Good luck!

I don't know how rare she is in Europe. She's quite common in the US, so I wouldn't feel bad about rehairing her. There are tons of rehairing tutorials on YouTube. Here's one from my friend, Princess Juliet. And here's another from my friend, okiegurl1981. Both of those use the tool method. There is another method using a needle and thread, however, I've never done it that way. I hear that it is more time consuming but more secure when finished.

The match for Moondancer's stripe is My Little Customs Wisteria or RetroDolls UK Destiny RDs.

The color match for the purple is called 'Wisteria' but retrodolls UK has one purple called "destiny" that's very close...a bit shinier and less grey than Wisteria, but I used it to restore a Daisy Dancer and she looks great!
see above :) Skig is correct
