Hi all!

I'm looking into opening a shop for my original and fannish artworks. MLP would be a small portion of it, but I wanted some input from people who like MLP as much as I do

I wasn't sure where to put this question, so if this is the wrong forum, let me know.

I was thinking of selling both physical pieces of traditional artwork as well as prints of digital pieces/trad. artwork that seems "print"-able lol. I was considering doing custom artwork as well (digital/traditional, we'll see) of ponies or people's ponysonas.

So my question to you all is, what kind of pony artwork would you want hanging in your house? Custom pieces? Iconic/easily recognizable ponies from each gen? Just the pony, or something more illustrative?

Thanks!! And sorry if this is in the wrong spot!

It seems that the going rate for MLP artwork is about $3-15usd for a 4x6 high quality print. That usually something that is fairly simple like character and simple background.

I Just got some art cards for $3usd each and they’re postcard sized. So it depends on how much you want to do with it. @MustBeJewel might have a better idea on pricing custom artwork as she has taken commissions. ;)

But when and if you do, let me know. I will buy it all. :)

I love custom piece of my oc or favorite character

When I do commissions, I have several different price tiers as to what the buyer wants: colour print, B&W print, original art broken down into watercolour, coloured pencil or pen & ink. Backgrounds add to the cost, as they add to the work. Then size comes into play. trading card size is the cheapest then I work up from there, mainly dependent on how long I work on the piece. Prints are always cheapest of course, but I've found people usually want original art. Once you and your customer decide on what you're to produce, make sure to get half your price upfront, the other half upon completion, before it ships.

People will try to get free art claiming it'll be good exposure for you. While it seems flattering at first, refuse this. Your art is a commodity and you should be paid for your talent. Exposure or praise are nice, but you can't eat compliments. Your art is beautiful and you deserve to be paid well.

I'd certainly be interested in one of your pieces.

Sorry for being so late, a new semester started and it has been crazy @-@

Thank you all for so much input! @Skybreeze that cost and size info is great! And I thank you for all your support of my artwork, you're too kind <3

@Ology I love drawing people's OCs! It's good to know someone would be interested in that! :)

@evilbunnyfoofoo you're the second person that's mentioned ATCs/trading cards, I hadn't even thought of them but that's a great small format. And I really appreciate all the information about original vs print and pricing. And thank you so much for the talk against exposure. I'm terrible at adequately pricing my work, lol. And thank you for the interest!!!

If I do commission-based stuff, I will at some point make a post with all the info somewhere (though figuring that out is something for future me at the moment... school is a beast). That's what I would be most interested in at the moment. Thank you all for your helpful input, it means a lot that you brought such detailed and specific info to this post <3
