Reglittering tutorial?

I want to learn to reglitter anyway...and a while back I came across a sunbeam who was just...pitiful. She was practically black with dirt...had an afro for hair...bleh. She's almost totally back to normal now except her symbol is toast. She'd be the perfect little pet project to learn on.

Does anybody have a link to a tutorial? Or have you done it (successfully) and could give me a step by step of how to do it?

Any help would be appreciated!

Edited because I always mix up the names "sunlight" and "sunbeam" for some reason. *facepalm*

I've just been using glitter glue pens. I've redone Moondancer, Meledy, three Starshines, Glory, and a couple of others. They work pretty well. The glitter is a little darker and bigger than the original, but I like the way they look.

Hmm...glitter pens I have. Maybe I'll try it. How would it work for a much finer symbol, such as snowflake with all those little tiny lines? Do you use a toothpick or something to apply it?

Do you have pictures of how they look when they're done?

I've tried stamping glitter mixed with clear nail polish. It takes several coats, but it has worked fine so far. The glitter is more similar to the original ponies b/c it's very fine. You can find it in the craft stores in the stamping or scrapbook sections. You have to put an acrylic sealer on the symbol once it's finished so that it doesn't peel off. I use a paintbrush and toothpicks to apply it. Sorry I don't have any pics. Good Luck!

Here are the only ones I still have that I have done. If it looks like faded spots, thats just sun glare.

I've heard that extra fine embossing glitter works well. I bought some, but it was still more rough than Hasbro glitter, and also, it doesn't lie nice and flat like the original either, but it LOOKS okay from a distance.

I use ultra fine glitter that you can find at Micheals. It's almost identical to hasbro glitter. You need to get some delta cream coat, matte sealer. Just dip a fine tip paint brust in the sealer, then in the glitter and brush it on:) You can get those nice sharp edges that way and the sealer will dry fairly quick and it's not messy like nail polish;) I have a custom rearing gusty that I made this way, I'll take a pic in a minute:)

I've never used a sealer before (I have no customizing skills, heh). How easy is it to use? *planning weekend shopping*

*sorry for the double post*

And thank you guys for the help! Perhaps sunbeam can finally get back to her old self.

So here's a related question...

If you were buying a pony, would you rather the symbols be reglittered and perfect or mostly gone, but original?

I just did my first symbol reglitter—I think it went pretty well! Her symbols were worn off pretty badly, but I could still see the outlines to use as guides. I used elmers glue and painted it on where I wanted to glitter. I used Barbara Trombley’s Art Glitter (microfine size). For the umbrellas I used the color Sultry mixed with some Silver Moon. For the umbrella handles I used Terra Blue mixed with some silver moon. I just sprinkled on the umbrellas first, then waited for it to dry. Then I sealed with DecoArt DuraClear Satin Varnish. Once that was dry, I repeated the process on the umbrella handles. I think the varnish is a bit too matte...it seems to have muted the sparkle more than I would have liked. But overall, a pretty solid first try, I would say! They have a ton of different microglitter colors at the artglitter website, artglitter.com.

Very impressive! I'm sure if I tried that, I'd have glitter and glue EVERYWHERE! lol
