Renamed Ponies

Usually I kept there original names but there are a few
I never liked the name Finger Paints as a kid, so I called mine Paint Palette :)
paint palette is cute and a much better name! i mean, she doesn't really have fingers anyway, idk why they went with that name?? XD sort of off-putting...

my childhood G3 squad was Moondancer, Sunny Daze, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash! as a kid i somehow knew all their names despite only owning the toys and not really any of the media  the only one i didn't know was Starcatcher, who was on either my backpack or my lunchbox? i think i called her "Cinnamoroll Pony" after the sanrio character because i had a box with him on it and the colors were similar i guess LOL

I got the 25th anniversary 3 pack of Blossom, Snuzzle and Minty but as a g3 girl I couldn’t see how that was Minty lol, so mine became Clover and somehow my sister ended up with the uk version so Sweet Stuff will always be Lollipop to me
I think for a while I thought G1 Minty was called Clover and yeah, Finger Paints makes no sense for a pony
I had renamed every single repeat name cause they bug me. Then Hasbro went and put Dazzle and Glimmer into new names as part, and now I eithet need to rerename those two or Be Mad.
Oh it would bug me too. Little kid me was always “there can only be one” of things. Even now I am still pretty “there can only be one”. I nickname the Pinkie Pies I have
I remember that as a kid I had Braided Beauty, who I promptly renamed Mufasa.
I must ask, is there a story behind why or did she just give the aura of “Mufusa”? I had to look at a picture of Braided Beauty just now and her aura is somehow giving me Mufusa now I have it in mind

Not mine, but my best friend's herd had a rename or two. Their sister got Baby Romperooni without knowing her name, so her name was Olaoakla. None of us were quite sure why. G3 Bowtie was also Bowtiey for a while, but that was just because they misread the packaging.

I don't think I have a single reason why I named her that. Just vibes, I guess!

Right? How can a pony do finger painting lol, made no sense
Also a cinnamoroll themed pony would be adorable
@StormMaeker haha yeah especially if you don’t get her in box Clover seems like a logical name for her

Sweet Stuff was Gumdrop when I was a kid!
@Draco Get to the choppa!
LOL
I need to find a name for Baby Ribbs. What on Earth was Hasbro thinking?
Baby Ribbs doesn't bother me because it makes me think of the spikes on his back. One of the definitions of "ribbed" is
  1. Formed into ribs or ridges; having alternate lines of projection and depression; ridged: as, ribbed cloth; ribbed hose.
...which seems dragonish to me! :)

But if you hate it, how about Baby Roars, Baby Firebreath, or Baby Spiny?

Have you ever renamed a pony because you didn’t like the name? Or couldn’t remember the name so gave the pony a new one? Or simply just nickname a pony?

I’m sure I must have renamed some ponies as a little kid because I must have forgotten them. I know I kept mixing up Scooter Sprite with Scootaloo

Share your renames/nicknames if any! :lolpony:
Oh my! Was just on a tangent about this the other day. Love it! Ok so G1 Tropicals always drove me nuts that :

Tootie Tails should have been named Pina Colada because she had an actual pineapple on her dupa.
Pina Colada doesn't even have coconuts on her palm trees so she should have been Oasis, Sunset, or something beach like since it's a dessert island theme on her cutie.
Hula shoulda been Sea Breeze since she's got a sailboat.
And Sea Breeze could be Fin or something about fish, too bad they already used Bubbles! Lol I'll think of something better then minutes after I post this.

But that's just my OCD. Those pony folks did a great job and we're still loving their toys(even if the names and colors seemed off at times!)

My personal insanity, Why does Sunlight have a silver sun with gold clouds!? Why, God, why!?! Fun thread, thanks for sharing.

We called Tootie Tails, Summer Heatwave here. Maybe Tootie Tails was too rude for the British sensibility! Lol! Pina Colada DOES fit better though...

Riiiiiight!? These are the things that keep me up at night!(that and wondering if my car will fall apart while I'm driving it.) But pony problems are the kinda problems I wanna have! Lol I feel like "Tootie" used to have a different cultural meaning, my partners mom was called ""Tootie" but I feel like the meaning is different now. Because yeah, I thought of passing gas as the meaning too.
I renamed HQG1C Kitty Love to Kittycorner.
That's silly and I LOVE IT!

My sister and I used to call Sweetie Belle Sweetie Dew, because we both used to have the So Soft Newborn Sweetie Belle, and when you pressed her hoof she said her name but it sounded more like "Sweetie Dew" to us :) But other than that, we called ponies by their Slovenian name translations as we had slovenian dubs of Princess Promenade and A Very Minty Christmas on DVD as kids. Even to this day, I call some ponies by their Slovenian names because it feels nostalgic

I called 4-Speed his UK name, Trucker, because as a kid I thought 4-Speed made no sense.
Tip Toes the ballerina pony was Meadowlark from MLP Tales. She's the right colours and a ballerina so it fits!

When I was a kid, blue Ember was the only mail order I ever had. I don't ever remember seeing the offer to get her, she just appeared one day and I have no idea who got her for me. I didn't know Ember came in three colors but I did know that Lucky was blue, so I called her Lucky and she was a boy. I thought it was a little weird that the Lucky in the brochure had a horseshoe symbol and my pony didn't, but I chalked that up to "actual product may differ from image."

I remember studying the boxes at the toy stores as a kid, trying to memorize all of the pony names! lol
Even though that sort of thing was important to me, there were still a few in my own collection that I renamed.

Wavedancer was Pinky...because she's pink. (I got her when I was really, really young, okay?)
Fizzy was Root Beer Float (My favorite dessert as a kid.)
Sweet Pop was Popsicle so I wouldn't get her name confused with Sweet Stuff.

There were a few others that got renamed, but those were the most memorable. I also accidentally renamed my favorite G3, Silver Glow. I was so excited when I got her that I misread her name on the box as "Silver Crow," which everyone else in the family misread as well. We didn't discover the mistake until looking at ponies in the store waaaay later. In my mind, she is still Silver Crow.

Not really a full rename but I refuse to call various G2's 'Her Majesty ......'

They're just Ballerina, Pearl - I'm not even super keen on 'Great Romance' I just call her Romance or Fuchsia since she's literally identical to Fuchsia

Also have very strong feelings about the fact it's SunSPARKLE not SunDANCE
