Hello everyone, we have now been using this new board software format for a couple of months, everyone appears to have settled in nicely and we get very few requests for signature assistance. Creating a signature is easy and can be done by clicking on your name on the top bar and then "Signature" etc.

The signature size here at the MLPTP has been the same for over 10 years. The current requirements are as follows: MLPTP Signature Guidelines

  1. You are allowed to combine images and text within your signature, granted that the following criteria are met.
    - The Maximum size of all images, when added together, must be 50k or less.
    - The dimensions of your signature in total, including both images and text should be 300x180 (width x height) or less. This also applies to HTML tables.
    - No signature may contain more than two graphics.
    - No signature may contain more than five lines of "Normal Sized" text. This includes text that wraps from one line to the next, at any screen setting.
    - Blank lines in your signature will count towards your 5 lines of text.
    - Do not include quiz or test results in your signature.
    - Tickers are strictly prohibited.
    - All forum rules apply to signature content as well. Language, Link content, and font size must all be suitable for the board.
Things have changed on this new format, we now have no sidebar when reading/writing a post so effectively there is more room for a signature. We are fully enabled now for mobile devices, and as such signatures will not appear on those devices due to the cost of bandwidth/load times etc.

On the desktop format you will see all signatures, and in some cases you will no doubt see some that are over the above requirements. You might also see the word "SIGPIC" in some signatures, this is a remnant from the old board format, we no longer use the SIGPIC tag, so if you see that you will need to update. ( You can post for assistance in the Help forum or PM any mod :)

The purpose of this thread is to get a member consensus of what you think the signature requirements of the board should be. We thought we would poll and gather your feedback, since the rules we have in place are very old and could possibly do with an update.

So over to you all now.. Ive added a poll, please feel free to comment on what you think our signature rules should be...... bear in mind that we need to be mindful of those on slower connection speeds and that a nice quick page load is vital to a fun user experience.

Many thanks to everyone , the poll is also a multiple response one :)

First, thank you for looking for our opinion on this. I personally don't see a need to change but then I am not much of a sig user in the first place. I do find large, flashy images to be annoying. I have great internet so loading is not an issue to me but I would not want to increase the limits and slow other members down. Waiting for images to load would make 'hanging out' less fun.

As long as they're not the size of a desktop wallpaper, a full YouTube video, or a series of huge GIF images, I'm fine <:\

I don't see any issue with the requirements they are now unless someone out there has a really good reason I don't see why they can't stay the same.

I haven't seen any that are really huge or annoying, so I think they are fine:)

This size seems quite fine, Slinky. I'm sure we can help people resize their images if they need help!

It's awesome you're looking for different opinions on this. I myself don't see a need for change.

Thankyou everyone for the feedback,
Keep those votes coming, They are also anonymous by the way :)

Another bump back to the first page.
Still taking votes till the weekend on this one,...

Looks very muchly like we will leave them be. We do so love our stability!

Change is scary!
