Starting My Customs Journey - Revealed!

@AzaleaArt Sometimes I'd seal at the end. But I usually end up wiping my face-ups cause I don't like them lol. Painting isn't really my forte, and I haven't attempted in ages ^^;
Lol well I’m sure they were cute anyway, but yeah I guess if you aren’t happy with it sealing wouldn’t be very important

Welp. I am a classic overdoer and I definitely overdid it! I used ail polish remover instead of straight acetone, and then left her in for too long, so now she's got blue splotches all over her. I believe the remedy for this - assuming it doesn't just like fade out of it naturally? Is a peroxide sun bath, right? I'm gonna give her a day or so, see how she looks, but any advice is welcome.

I would suggest trying to clean with 100% acetone. Just nail polish remover won’t get rid of all the factory paint. Whereas 100% acetone works well. Douse a cotton pad with it and hold onto the paint for about 5-10seconds and wipe. That should get the smear paint off.

IF that doesn’t work, you need to do Hydrogen Peroxide (liquid). Because she’s white doing a soak is typically what’s recommended. I’m not sure how quick it takes on a G3, but this process is very slow and can take many months.
You could try using Hydrogen Peroxide hair developer BUT be warned this can cause burning on white ponies.

A great guide for all three methods are available on the MLP Preservation Project page.

-nods- Definitely noted for the future, I don't think the blue on her now is from her mark though. There's a lot of it, and not only did it get worse the longer I left her in but now it looks like it's fading away some. I wasn't even using blue polish remover to start with, I added a litle laster when I thought the blue was just something I'd missed.

From the looks of it all of the factory paint that was on her, even on her leg, is completely gone now from the soaking and harsh wiping with a paper towel.

So I did actually figure out that the blue that was getting on the pony wasn't from the nail polish remover at all. It was from the blue dye that was left on my gloves from when I'd dyed my hair last, I'd tried to wash the stuff off when I did it with no luck. I guess the nail polish remover was just managing to get that off the gloves.

I've been smearing her headless body in the weak peroxide I've got on hand and having her bask in the sun, she's definitely lightening back up but it's going to take a few more days to get her back to proper white. I only just got all of the hair out of the mane so next up is trying to get the remaining bright pink dye off of where her mane holes are.

I've got everything in, and the hot water worked! ^^ I'm very excited to get started! Next up I've got to clean her up.View attachment 40797

By the way, I'm not actually sure who this pony used to be. I feel like I can almost remember, but since it's not happening I wonder if you all can help me. Little me ruined her a long time ago and took off a lot of her mark using acetone, but the sparkles that remain were from that original mark. I never had the impression that she was rare but I can't seem to find her on identification sites.

This is exciting! I decided to try my hand at customs for fun and as a creative outlet, and also recently ordered needles, one pack of hair, the rerooting tool and glue from ShimmerLocks. Would love to see an update on your pony!

Remaking a bait pony is a bit daunting right now but I found some HQG1C blanks available online. Does anyone have advice on good businesses to use when buying blanks? The whole thing is new to me and I want to make sure their products are quality items.

Never realized Frilly Frocks has such pretty hair. I never paid attention to her.

I definitely will be posting updated pictures once I have them! ^^ I've got a lot going on right now, and trying to get the blue dye out of one specific spot on the pony is proving difficult and slow-going. I think I've almost got it though!

Unfortunately I can't really help with the latter bit, but I would be interested to know too. You might be better off making a new thread to address that though.

It's been some time, the process was going slow and then life got in the way, but I'm happy to say that I've got the pony cleaned and I'm finally back at it.

I definitely already broke one of the needles :,D But I'd seen plenty of stuff already that basically said "Expect it, especially as a novice" so I did have extras. I definitely ended up getting a blister trying to unscrew the rehair tool though haha. Kinda hard to get a good grip on the thing, and when it's tightened it's solid.

I will of course most likely be trimming her hair by the time I get done, but ultimately I still want her to have very long hair so I intend to trim as little as possible.

I wonder though if anyone knows who this is I'm making. Feel free to make some guesses. ;)

Ooh, a guessing game!
Let’s see… is this based on another pony?

Is she going to get any additional paint on her body?
