Hello all! (Hope this is the right thread to post I

I was lucky enough to run into a build a bear applejack while thrifting, today! She's in pretty decent shape, but... despite a good washing and shampooing/conditioning, the ends of her mane have.. what feels like sticky candy or honey(??) in it, making it impossible to run the comb fully through.:(

Any suggestions on how I might safely remove it...?

Is is sticky or just damaged?

If it's damaged I'd let the conditioner sit on it at least an hour (or overnight if you forget it like I do). Brush it out and then do a flat iron treatment on the lowest setting.

If sticky, I'd try Dawn first, that'd be the gentlest. If that doesn't work an Oxiclean soak.

Last resort would be LA's Totally Awesome or Goo-b-gone maybe? But only use it on the hair, not the plush parts. I'd test it on a less noticeable spot first.

It's definitely sticky! I'll give dawn a try. :)

Sticky is a hard call, only because it's hard to know what's causing it in the first place. If the Dawn doesn't work (which it hopefully will, as it's a de-greaser), as someone who can't tolerate chemicals, I'd be reaching for some baby oil or vegetable oil to soak just on the sticky parts. They might work the same as they do to remove things like price sticker residue. Then wash, condition, and on to the fabric steamer or flat iron as @Lilykin said ;)

Frizzy hair tutorials can be found here, if needed: https://www.mlptp.net/index.php?threads/how-do-i-get-rid-of-frizzy-hair.115774/

I’ve heard that dipping clothing in ice water is a good way to remove sticky candy residue (like melted taffy or lollipops), so dipping the hair in it could help?

I would try Dawn or Goo Gone, its orange and orange scented. I use it for sticky glued doll hair and it works wonders! Just let it sit for a minute then wash it out. :)
