Hello,

Well, with my aunt passing away the time has come to sell her house. My bf wants to move to Florida, so I was hoping you could tell me about Florida.

What city do you live in/have you visited and what's it like there?

What are the people like? Are they outgoing? Are they reserved? Are the tolerant to nontraditional types of people? Is there a mixture of ethnicities and are the people tolerant of them?

Hows the crime? I know any city has its good areas and bad, but are there any seriously bad problem areas (like Los Angeles or New York has) or is it pretty much just be careful and you will be fine anywhere?

How about the weather? Are hurricanes as bad as the news makes them out to be, or are they pretty much just an annoyance?

I will be scoping out places to live in Florida in a few months. What places should I visit?

Thanks!

First off, I'm really sorry about your aunt. :(

I lived in Florida for about two months when I was in 7th grade, and we quickly moved back up to Maine because my brother was unhappy. We lived in Cocoa Beach, which you might have heard of because of the RonJon Surf Shop (or whatever it's called, lol).

Personally, I really liked it there. We lived right next to the beach and Florida water is really warm, so I was able to go swimming even in December. It was nice out pretty much the entire time we were there! We didn't even have any hurricanes at all.

The people there are extremely laid-back and friendly; I made a ton of friends on my first day of school because everyone I met was so nice! It's pretty much a melting pot of ethnicities, but it doesn't really matter to anybody. However, I'm not really too keen on the crime there, but it wasn't an issue when I lived there. Still, you should probably keep a watchful eye of suspicious people anyway.

The one weird thing that I had to get used to was the change in stores and fast food chains. In Maine, we have stores like Hannaford, but in Cocoa Beach, there were stores like Publix and Winn-Dixie instead. We also had an influx of fast food chains like Popeyes and Taco Bell (we have some in Maine too, but not nearly as many). I don't know about the stores where you live, but it was a bit of an odd change for me. Not really a big deal, though.

I hope this helps! :D

Nyah, I have made a promise with my sister that when we are old grannies we will move to Florida :D. I haven't been there ever but what I "know" it is great place for retirement ;)

edit// this was my 1, 000 post ^^

Oh dude, sorry for butting in since I can't really help you (has barely even left her own country), but the very first thing that came into my mind when I read your topic title was a muppet rabbit going "Florida?! Let me tell ya something 'bout Florida: *insert all manner of annoyances here*".
I think his name is Phil, I know him because he cameoed in some of Some Jerk With a Camera's videos, the first of which was this one (he comes in at 01:42-ish. WARNING: Language!), but he does have his own videos. I don't know if any of his rants are true, but I find them funny nonetheless. :p

My youngest brother lives in Arcadia. He likes it aside from being far from home. It's very humid, but Florida has lots of wide open spaces. It's very redneck-y in some areas 9which I admit I like) and rents away from the tourist towns can be pretty cheap. The weather would be a real draw, except hurricanes, but my brother has invented drinking games to go with weather warnings on TV. Now the bigger cities are sorta crummy, run down places with tourist crap everywhere, but get in a middle sized town and I bet it would be great.
