The GOOD news thread

I’ve been going through all my old photos and came across one of my absolute favourites. I remember doing this and my mom helping me do it. Looking back at these old memories definitely brought back a lot of fun and laughter today.

Cookie to whom ever can guess which of these are still with me today. (Hint 5 of them survived 30+ years with me.)

I hope the Care Bears survived. The cabbages, star buddy and Hugga bunch.
I just got a letter telling me my student loans were forgiven I am so happy.
This is amazing news. I had student loans for 11 years and when they were paid off I nearly cried, and I’m not a crier. I bet you feel like an enormous weight has been lifted from you. Congratulations.

Although I was sent home from work today, due to direct Covid exposure with an infected person, I had a good day.

Before I left work, I was able to do some small, good things for some inmates. One unit at work has been locked up for two days straight and the guys were going crazy. I talked to each of them outside their cells, provided them with hot water and had their garbage removed.

They started yelling to each about how amazing I was for doing these things for them and as I was being escorted out, they were all yelling thanks to me.
It made me feel really good. It’s very difficult at the jail right now and people are afraid, as we had a staff member test positive. People are stressed and many of the staff are short tempered with the inmates and inmates are angry because they feel staff have brought Covid into the jail. I have been trying very hard to show kindness, understanding and compassion to both staff and inmates. It makes a difference. With my own life a bit of a disaster, I find it helpful to try to spread some good around. I wanted to share with you guys and let you all see how small acts can leave a big impression.

So, two days ago I found out my boss (the co-owner of the dance studio) filed for unemployment benefits. Neither she, nor the other owner, are taking any salary during this time, in order for them to continue to pay the salaries of their teachers. I am one of about 8 teachers they employ.

Yes, I know, this isn't good news. But knowing that the owner was making such a sacrifice on behalf of the teachers really moved me. I used to own a studio. I know just what she is going through. Her passion for what we do, and the survival of the business, is more important to her than her own salary.

Well. Quite frankly it inspired me. So, I offered a free virtual "reunuin" ballet class via Zoom to all my former students, dance friends, and colleagues. I invited over 75 people via social media, texts and emails. It was short notice, but 21 people took my class yesterday afternoon! In that one ballet class we had people from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois, Michigan, and Alaska! We had a blast. I got to "dance" with people I haven't really seen in over a decade (my best friend from high school was there!), and they donated $80 for the class! I gave 100% of the proceeds to the studio owner.

I was so honored and humbled that I had such a response to my offering. And they have all requested I do it again when I can. I think, even after this situation is at an end, there will be many more virtual ballet classes in my future! Dance creates a very close-knit relationship between the participants. It really was like having a family reunion yesterday, and I loved it!

I got my Neca Faun from Pans Labyrinth and my Amphibious man from the Shape of Water today. I also got got my vinyl pop Shape of Water pop set in too. It’s bigger then I thought.

I'm feeling very grateful today.

I have many things about my job that I dislike (primarily the pay), but I really enjoy working with inmates. I've felt that I have made a difference in the unit I'm working on. Two inmates have come to me in the last couple days, just to talk about their feelings. I'm pleased that they find me approachable and that they can express themselves in healthier and functional ways.

Also, I've been getting in 50 flights of stairs at work every day and 10-20km after work. It's helps with my crazy head to keep my body moving.

Got my neca Ophelia, Funko 5 star Annabelle , pop Annabelle cute doll, and dorbeez faun.also pop Daria

I have good news! My phone battery died, like really kicked the bucket dead. I was so worried about needing a new phone. I took my girl's old broken iPad in and they essentially traded it for a brand new battery in my phone. The iPad, working, would be worth $400, but it needed a $300 fix. The LCD array, screen and backlight all needed replacing and it had been sitting in my garage for a year, so it was like getting a free battery. Now my phone holds it's battery charge for three days! Sweet!

Well, Apple just came out with their new se. It's only $400 and pretty awesome. It's definitely worth it. I'm still glad to wait.

Definitely worth waiting a little, I have plenty of buddies who only buy the new stuff immediately when it comes out and just dishes out $$$$$ on the new stuff. I'm happy to have something I can take pictures with XD

Me, too. My dad spent $$$ on an iPhone x when they were just released, now, with the new se out, he's wishing he had waited.

Lol that’s always the way with apple products. If I buy anything I always wait for the September announcements and buy then. Lol

My brother keeps current on what's going to come out through Apple and bides his time for the most effective devices. I don't know how it's possible that I'm related to a genius, but he is. I completely trust his judgment of devices, phones, home security, and gaming systems. He's proven to be right so many times.

Oo, good news! My room may be salvageable! It would be great to not replace walls and floors. It's looking good!

Oh I know I was the last to post, but, more good news!!! My check engine light turned off and stayed off! My dad checked everything out and it looks like my car is a-ok. Her name is orchid. :) Yes, I named my silly little car and I'm ludicrously happy that I don't need an expensive tune up yet.

What a pretty little gal she is :cc: a pink car is amazing!

@Tak thats exciting news! My baby’s check engine light also mysteriously went off this week too, but I think it was on because the cap for my washer fluid wasn’t tight.

This is Neville back when he was new:
