The straight up weirdest thing you’ve seen while pony hunting?

this one that i actually kind of want to buy for the sincerity and hilarity of it:

and this one that kind of reminds me of those thrift store boxes or vases that someone hot-glued a bunch of shells to, lol:

well, i think i just found my new sleep paralysis demon :surprisepony: why is it flesh colored???? D:
When i was 15 I probably would have wanted that breaking dawn pony so bad lol :DD It feels like a piece of history now lol a bygone era

The weirdest thing I can think of is buying a bag of g1 ponies and the baby Firefly's vinyl was paper thin. So thin you can see through her back legs and you can crinkle her legs like a rubber kitchen glove. Not a clue how she got that way. When cleaning her they were so delicate if i had applied any pressure the cotton swab I was using to clean inside her leg would have punched right through her hoof.

that's crazy, i wonder how that could be restored? sculpting in and around her legs to make them more sturdy? poor thing :s

I've thought about that! I may try and find some sort of clay that wont strink when dry to fill up her legs. I wonder how her vinyl got so thin! :blink:Ive never even heard of that happening. Has anyone ever had a pony turn thin from sunlight? I dont think mold would eat away at vinyl surely?

Might just be how she was cast in her mold, not enough vinyl in that pour or it never got into the leg for some reason.

Hmm I hadnt thought of that! Her entire body is thinner than it should be though, you can squish her really easily, both of her back legs and around her wings are the worst. If it was from due to not enough vinyl poured into her mold I wonder how she got through quality control. Shes very fragile!

I’d try model magic  It doesn’t shrink and when it’s dry it has kinda a soft slightly springy texture so she wouldn’t become rock hard, plus it’s a lot lighter than other clay types that I’ve used. Though if she’s so thin that you can see through her it might not work that well

Don't worry, they're all right now.

Weirdest? I probably have a few. I acquired a Kellogg's baby ages ago, can't remember where I got it. When I went to clean her, she had Wite-Out covering the back of her hind leg. I removed it with acetone and saw that someone had written "25¢" in permanent marker on her and the Wite-Out was used to cover it up.

Some other fun gems.

I love that two of the posts in this thread that made me laugh the hardest were immediately followed by yourpinkoverlord's user icon.  So appropriate!
This one also keeled me over! Thank you all for the laughs!

So about the very thin pony plastic! It's super weird that it got through quality control like that but my best guess is just that it didn't get the full amount of vinyl blown into the mold. I have a BNG Ringlets with one yellowish front leg that is very squishy and thinner than the rest of her plastic. It's hard to say if the thinness led to the yellowing or if it's possible there was some plastic loss associated by whatever yellowed it, but I'd imagine an outside agent with that much plastic-altering power would show up more randomly on a pony, or would distort the outside thickness as much as the inside. I also just opened up a bait baby Ribbs and he turned out to have a completely solid, vinyl filled hind leg!

Re: Azalea's suggestion about Model Magic. I like that idea but am also skeptical. It's an air-dry clay, with a vinegar smell that tells me there's some chemistry at work as preservatives or drying agents. Would this cause discoloration? I'm not sure. But I do know that large sculpts take ages to dry internally because the outside layer dries and kind of protects the inside. So packing a pony with it means it would take a suuuuuper long time to dry, though it still could (I've had unopened foil packets of the stuff go "dry" on me because I didn't use them for years. The foam was too solid to work with but still had kind of a moist feeling when I opened it.) Unfortunately I can't think of another air-cure medium to recommend. I do wonder what the result could be of filling her with little plastic bb's or something like that? She could be like one of those tactile stress toys! XD

I seen a cotton candy (g1) so full of rust/mold once at a thrift store that that it looked flocked in greenish black
That's nasty. I'm amazed they didn't throw her out as a health hazard.
