A week ago ActionHank went outside to find the turtle enclosure's door wise open. He'd been by it earlier and it was shut. We're been having weirdness at the house (and honestly, some of it may be me, I am forgetting things and acting generally more brain dead than normal), but I don't have to take the blame for this one. Going down the backstairs is very hard because of my knee, so i *know* I didn't go out there. And I certainly didn't wedge it where it would stay open, which is how it was found.

The bad thing about it all is that the turtles of course went walk about. Gratefully, the back yard is fenced so they were pretty contained, but it's still a huge area to search. Hank, being a super hero, was able to locate 8. I found one, which leaves three toed box turtle named Bowser missing. He's been gone a week now. We can't mow, because he might be in the grass. He might have escaped. He might've flown away for all I know, but I can't find him and he actually belongs to my sister Amy. I look every day, but no Bowser.

I admit, I was grateful my two oldest were found, Krektai, who I've owned for 33 years, a handsome Gulf Coast box turtle who originally came to me an emaciated wreck that had been attacked by a dog. He had a respiratory infection and was in bad shape. He spent 2 years recovering, so he was never released into the wild. My next oldest is 27. Her name is Arnie Ambulance Chaser, a Three Toe. My husband Steve fetched her out of the road after she was hit by an ambulance while trying to cross a highway. She had major shell damage and thus was never able to return to the wild. Most of the others have similar stories, except Bowser who was just a beloved pet.

So where is he? I have to find him. And what shoved open the door? I have no idea. I could see maybe a cat or raccoon opening it to steal food from the turtles, but free them? What the heck.

And this is all on the heels of the cockatiel cage being opened as well, which ended with my aunt's dog Burrito pouncing on cockatiel Gabby Godzooks and accidentally killing her. Thinking maybe a cat managed to open the heavy cage door I wired it shut and twice now I've found the wire missing. Not just undone, GONE.

It's like we're haunted.

Soooo... if you were a turtle, where would you hide?

Also, anyone having weirdness they wanna chat about?

Wow you're house has a lot going on! Maybe he decided to get propellers like Tank and escape.

Maybe he's under a shed? Or in a gutter? I hope you can find him!

check near water? Or someplace quiet. Maybe he's stressing with so many roommates? I honestly don't know much about turtles, I'm sorry :( I do know that they're relatively private in the wild. They don't seem to hang out much from what I've seen in documentaries apart from mating season.

Also, wow I figured from your last post about your new pup that you had a lot of animals, but I'm starting to think I underestimated just how many (O).(O)

What does your turtle enclosure look like? Is it outside? What is your climate like? I'm trying very hard to fit my head into this Turtle-Shaped Thinking Cap *intense thinking-face*

Maybe he followed princess peach home jk
I hope you find him soon

Usually looking at water would've been our best bet, but we've had storm after storm, so water isn't a problem for him right now. It's a good guess though, quartz!

We've overturned anything they could get under, walked the yard dozens of times. I sadly think he somehow dug out, but where I dunno. Or worse, he's in the grass which is getting taller by the day. Guess for now, he's on the road, a free turtle, outrunnin' da law!

Eventually I figure I'll catch him at the compost heap perhaps, as there's good eatin' over there.

If you lived closer to other inhabited places I would think that someONE was messing with you guys. But you are miles from others, aren't you?

We do have one neighbor that's nearby, but she's our best friend, so she's not the sort! (I bought the land, came home and told my friend Linda and her husband about it, and the next day they bought land near us! She's my fab-boo babboo!) Otherwise I think the nearest neighbor is maybe half a mile off. I think...

Honestly, I thought at first surely someone had done it as a prank, but no one opened any of the other enclosures. Just the turtles. I guess no point letting out the rabbits, they escape well enough on their own, the brats!

I like in Texas, in the woods so it's quite hot, but with lotsa trees. As I'm hoping he's still in the yard itself, he has a lotta area to hide, with plenty of nice tall grassto shelter in. There's cats wandering around, but they wouldn't bother him. Our cats are lazy.

Yeah, there's easily over 100 animals here. It is a sanctuary, so critters in need of homes do show up often. But there's 23 acres, so there's plenty of room. We have probably 20+ cats, over 20 rabbits, goats, piggies, a llama, about a dozen dogs (but they're in 50' x 40' pens, two to a pen). There's all sortsa critters here. I ever do wildlife rescues, like possums, raccoons, all the fun stuff.

They've already suggested all I could think of. I really hope you find him. He probably went after Mario, do maybe check the pipes? (Honestly, though, I hope you find him. Good luck! I would come help if we were closer. :xmashug: )

Good luck, hun! I hope you find them soon:xmashug:eek:r that they go on to live a wonderful turtley life on the road:coolpony:
(also sorry for that pic being enormous. I uploaded from my phone and it was nice and tiny on there ^-^;)

I still can't believe I found as many of them as I did.

You were a super trooper, kiddo. I'm so grateful you found so many, especially my sweet, sweet Krektai and Arnie. They've been my 'kids' longer than you've been alive!

If I were a turtle I would be back in my bed all cozy and warm. ;)

Me too. I'm genuinely considering going back to bed right now! :D
