Here I am cleaning the insides of Cute Curtsey and Pretty Parasol when suddenly

it’s one of these ones!
I’ve seen one like this in Daffidazey where the tail isn’t folded over but I assumed that’s because she’s a SLH and doesn’t need her tail folded but this in Pretty Parasol (pictured) and Cute Curtsey? Not like in my other ones I’ve cleaned!
I was going to remove it and replace with cable ties because the rust problem is terrible and messy but with the tail secured like this, I’ll probably leave it like Daffi who hasn’t got the ring bit from it falling apart but she still has the bit holding it all together.

I’m still going to clean out the insides though but the rust problem will still probably continue. I don’t want to take it apart from losing hair and shortening the tail.

How do others here tackle this kind of washer? In the case that it ends up falling apart from the rusting, what should I do?

You can buy new clamps and a new plastic washer for her tail. I’ve purchased them from Amazon and work great, just keep note of ponies you’ve replaced so if you ever sell in the future new buyers will know and hopefully not put in water.
I’ll have to take a look at those. Thanks!

I usually take photos as I go along with any project so I have something to reference back to. I should keep note also. Thanks again!

I normally just try to find plastic cable ties or zip ties. They seem to be very safe. I seen alot of G3s witht hose weird half washers and glue...ugh hasbro what were you thinking ?

So they're being kept in those kinds of washers with glue? I wondered how they're not falling out of those

I've seen a couple of this style. My last g3 purchases were this gross inside too. And if they have pale tails it extends down the tail as well. Yucko. You could put a zip tie around the middle to keep it all under control while you remove the rusted stuff and clean, and remove the temp zip tie when you are done. Ive put cut ends in some glue for extra strength before it goes back in the pony.

So far I’ve seen three styles in my G3’s which are this one, the metal coin and clamp and now two plastic rings with thread in the middle. I think Hasbro should’ve stuck with the plastic ones.

What kind of glue have you used? I’m thinking tacky fabric glue but it could be the wrong stuff but I did use it for a rehair

I used the polyurethane glue that I repaired a split mane with too. The split mane has since been rehaired and seems to be good. I'll tell you how good the glue really is soon though because one of the necks I really really did a bad job on removing. I had never seen a head glued on that bad before, so some of the "neck" remained on the head after my butchery. I than removed those poor pieces and glued them back on the neck. The test will be when I put the poor pony back together, but I still need to rehair her first.

Edit: oops sorry, getting threads mixed up, for the tail I just used a clear general purpose craft glue.

I think the tacky fabric glue might work. Do you have some old hair you could try on first?

I don’t have any spare hair but I used it when I was putting hair in my custom and it has held great. Even if you tug it, none comes out

I would fix the tail with a zip tie and put a nice solid amount of glue of the cut ends and really mash it in, that is unless you find it already has glue.

But, my disclaimer is I've only been doing this for a little while. It worked for my pony, but I would see what the others who are more experienced say. For me if I've had it open I would take the chance to get rid of evil metal lol

A lot of people replace metal washers with plastic clamps/ties just to eliminate the risk of it rusting again. I definitely think having metal parts inside toys that could potentially get wet is just asking for something bad, lmao
