What are you watching now?

I started rewatching it for the umpteenth time today. A League of Their Own made me angry, so I will likely DNF the darn thing. There's not enough quality entertainment out there.
Entertainment is sadly lacking today. I’m a big reader and tv is mostly just background noise for me so my voices don’t overwhelm me. (Mod edit: inappropriate content removed)
right now it’s loverfella on YouTube

I want a reading thread now. Does one exist? I'm gonna make one.

What made you angry? I was debating watching it.. >.>

OK, so the short answer is:
...still long.

I feel like the show depicted violence toward lgbtq people in a way that was, in itself, a violence. Watching it felt traumatic. I kept thinking, "who is this for? Why are the makers of the show making these choices?" I understand that violence is a part of lgbtq history. Like, REALLY, I do. However, when you have it in an entertainment forum, there are ways to deal with the violence that show respect and sorrow for the things in the past and there are ways that dramatize and sorta...re-traumatize? Perpetuate the trauma? Pass it on to a new generation?
There was a scene of happiness. With the music and the drawn-out anxiety. And the assurance that something was about to go horribly wrong. And I felt like ... like I was being made to witness violence against my community and that the witnessing itself *WAS* a violence, you know?
The scene in question screams, "you aren't safe. you aren't wanted in public spaces." It is juxtaposed with a private party involving queer people of color, ratcheting up awareness that queer people and poc people aren't safe and that they dare not seek comfort outside extremely private spaces. There's this sense of 'if you can do it where no one knows, you're ok, but you dared go out somewhere together, so you kinda brought it on yourself.' One of the main characters accuses another in this way: "we shouldn't have even been there." The thing is, it's not historically inaccurate, but the way it is dramatized, and the way the anxiety is ratcheted up through cinematography, music, juxtaposition, and the lingering suggestiveness of the shots (police brutalizing people in positions clearly meant to elicit thoughts of [a particular type of] violence), it just really rubbed me the wrong way.

When I watched episode 6, I thought to myself, "no way was this written by a queer person" when, in fact, it was. That hurts me a little to conceive of, honestly, but I think the fact that it was a male (queer) writer might have something to do with it.
I think I've probably skirted the line of what is OK to write about on the forums, and I don't want to get in trouble. I'l probably finish the show at some point... but I was honestly sick to my stomach after episode 6, and I needed a break and a comfort show.

I never really thought of it quite that way. I can definitely see your point.

I’m not sure if there’s a reading thread… I think the last one strayed too far into adult books.

The last thread was closed due to inactivity and nothing more. ;)

Oh, ok. I figured that the very non pg books referenced were the reason.

I tried watching The Witcher but...like...I don't get why its so popular?
I really liked it but I totally understand why someone wouldnt. It was a little much my first time watching... The second season was much more chronological and easier to follow! The second season really improved it for me.

More Bob Ross

I’ve been wanting to get into the spooky vibes so I watched “The Devil in Ohio” mini series on Netflix yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised by this show and it had a great story and some wonderful performances, to the point that I am still trying to unravel some of the mystery.

After I finished that, I finally got to watching another limited Netflix series “Lost Ollie.” This is one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s ever had a beloved toy from their childhood. This show was so good, the acting, animation, story, direction everything. Just a piece of magic that should be seen by more people. Highly, highly recommend if anyone has Netflix and has access to it. (If your like me, I recommend a box of Kleenex near by too.)

I started up Sailor Moon again yesterday, my girl Pluto finally showed up ♥

So… is it ok to post something that isn’t rated pg? Tv has a different rating system. I’ll put it in a spoiler as it’s tv-ma.

Oh I saw a trailer for Lost Ollie and it looked so cute! I could already tell I’ll be crying when I watch it though lol

Just got done watching the Quantum Leap finale :surprisepony:

I only ever saw a few episodes in the past but they’re making a reboot/remake so ScFi has been showing it for a few weeks and I’ve been watching, it’s such a good show…
Anyway I hope the new one will have a similar vibe

Strange Magic

I’m watching AEW wrestling at this very moment.

My current obsession is Rise of the TMNT so I've been re-watching the movie (it's amazing!) and also random episodes. Fans say to keep streaming it so hopefully a season 3 will be green-lit so I'm doing my part. ;)

Tonight I saw a documentary about the production and workplace scandals of the Ren & Stimpy show. It was interesting but a little upsetting.

Also I have started binge-watching Community. Never seen it before and it's ok so far.
