I just finished rerooting Main Sail...and just did the tail. I basically just have to put her back together. But I do not have fabric glue to hold her hair in place. Is it ok to use....say...super glue? My husband suggested hot glue. But Im not sure the nozzle will fit in the head right to hit all the hair pieces. Is there something from home I can use? Ill put up pictures later after I put her cback together. Just want to get her finished up so I can trim the hair and what not.

For my first rehairing, I tried fabric glue and it wasn't strong enough... I ended up using a cotton bud with small amounts of gorilla glue instead (with water to help it expand). Not sure if hot glue would damage anything?

Good luck!

You want to make sure you use something that will NOT leak out of the holes and ruin the visible hair. White glue or super glue could easily be too thin depending on the brand. The expanding gorilla glue sounds like it could work. The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head would be rubber cement, but I would test that on a cheap fakie before a real pony (and be warned, that stuff reaks to high heaven).

If unsure, I'd suggest doing a bit of research to see how various glues hold up. I've rehaired a couple of Princess High dolls, and I don't know what garbage they used to hold the original hair in, but it was disgusting, greasy, came out in clumps, and leaked into the visible hair; I felt the need to wipe my fingers and needlenose pliers off with pure acetone afterwards to get them clean.

Fabritac would work very well! I would not recommend hot glue, the heat may melt the hair.

Rubber Cement always yellows after a few years. It's not an archival medium. It was used a lot in old fashioned cut and paste editing for an immediate result, so that it would stick multiple times until you were settled in your design, wherein it would be removed. I don't recommend it for permanent projects.

Thanks for letting me know before I tried it! XD

I've used tacky glue and it works well but takes foreveerrr to dry! Maybe that's just me using too much though lol

Fabritac is my go-to now, works great for ponies & dolls!

I used copious amounts of Elmer's Gel glue on my two customs and when I rerooted the red streak on my sister's Powder. I applied it with a q-tip. It took several days to dry but I have had no problems with it at all. No sign of leaking out and none of the plugs came out when I combed the hair afterward. I definitely was paranoid about that which is why I used so much.

I personally use Fabritac! It's the only thing I've used, but I've never felt the need to try any other product. It's generally inexpensive as well and lasts a long time : )

I've heard that Elmer's glue isn't waterproof and can wash out when the pony's hair gets washed- have you had any negative experiences using it in that regard? :0

Elmer's makes a few different glues, that might be a cause for confusion. Elmer's School Glue is going to do very little. However, Elmer's Glue-All is a LOT better for the job-- I use it for all sorts of things.

Well I hadn't thought of that. So far I have only used it on ponies who will never be getting wet. However, I think the one I have is good to go.

Here it is. The back says it is ideal for paper and cloth so I am guessing it doesn't dissolve in water. :D

Since you plan on keeping her, the gorilla glue should work fine. I have had great results with Fabri-tac. I let it dry for one to two days and it holds the hair in place during washing/styling with no hair strands coming out.
