What is Everyone Reading

We are currently reading the third Harry Potter book at night before bed. I read them a long time ago and now I get to share them with our son. When we finish a book we watch the movie. I have the third Peculiar Children's book halfway read for about 2 years now, just can't seem to pick it back up for some reason.
I stuttered while reading book 3 of the peculiar children. The story seemed to get a little too off kilter at some point. It's worth finishing, though. I enjoyed that series.

Agreed but I do love the strange and unusual so it's right up my alley. I think it was the movie that put me off for a while. My mommy eyes are too tired by the time I got the bed these days so hopefully one day I will finish it

I'm so out of the loop. There's a movie? :lolpony: It seems they are making everything into movies. I prefer books.

Yup but don't watch it. It's based on the first book. Pretty sorry It was Tim Burton too.

If you like HP, give Diane Duane's Young Wizards series a try. The first one is called So You Want To Be A Wizard. They're really good.
Wow I've never heard of that. I will have to look into that. Thanks!

She wrote the originals in the 80s, and then rewrote the first few in the "New Millenia Editions" to set them after the year 2000 so the kids had cell phones and Google. And book 14 comes out next summer, I think. There's also a trilogy for adults in the same universe about the team of cat wizards that keep the Worldgate at Grand Central Station in NYC running. First book in that is Book Of Night With Moon, and should come with a minimum of two kleenex boxes. Be warned.

Thank you! I'm always looking for new suggestions. :)

Personally, I'm enjoying everything Mary Robinette Kowal ever wrote. The Lady Astronaut series (Calculating Stars is the first) is absolutely fantastic! Alternate history of an accelerated space program in the 1950s, after a major natural disaster (meteor strike). My best friend is devouring Shades of Milk And Honey, which is Jane Austen-esque, but with magic. And then the couple that marries in that book (no spoilers, but it's a Jane Austin pastiche, so someone's getting married, right?) get 4 sequels, for a 5 book series. I'm rereading them to keep up with her.

Rereading Catherine Coulter’s Viking series. I like historical and paranormal romances, especially Catherine Coulter, Amanda Ashley, Keri Arthur, and Jeaniene Frost. I also enjoy some YA books. There are a handful of series I would like to reread including Animorphs, Pony Pals, some Goosebump books (especially the choose your own ending ones), and Christopher Pike.

Ok... some good ones. I like Keri Arthur's souls of fire.

I tried twice to read that one cause it definitely sounded like something I’d like, but I was never able to get past the first book. Not sure why, but something about it just didn’t work for me (and I own the first 3 in the series lol)

Thanks @MegaLeafeon ! :lolpony: I tried downloading a few apps that translate text in photos but they aren’t very accurate lol, so it looks like I’m learning a new language :D
Is katakana different than kanji?
Yes it most certainly is different! If you want a study buddy, I could help you out with the Japanese language and what resources I'm using to learn it!

I'm autistic and Japan is one of my special interests, I have an uncontrollable desire to know everything and anything about Japan and it's culture!
(I'm a bit of an otaku ;))

That sounds great, thank you! I do know a little Japanese, like colors, numbers up to 10, animals, fruits and some weather terms. Which is cool, but I can’t read them if they’re written in the characters like they are in these manga.
