What kind of collector are you?

My style depends from gen to gen. I only want G1s that I think look nice. I don't have an emotional childhood connection with that gen like a lot of people here, but I still love the look of some! I'm having trouble finding G2s, so I usually take what I get. I want a complete G3 collection. That is my emotional childhood gen, so I just need them all! I missed out on so many of them because of growing up poor so it's nice living my childhood dream! Maybe I'll even start hunting down playsets! G4 is eh. I love the ones I have now, they're pretty easy to find while thrifting around here. There's ones I want, but it's not a priority getting them right now. And because I missed out on so much G4, I'm going to try and get as much G5 as I can! Playsets, stationary, bedding. Anything I can get my hands on. I would see other peoples collections of them having everything like that and be pretty jealous that I missed out on all that!
All this can be said with all my other collections too! I don't collect every lol omg or nanana, but I do collect every rainbow high!

I have the same thing with G1s, I don't have an emotional connection from my childhood so I collect what I like and have become attached to them that way :) I mostly collect G1. Interestingly enough, I played with G3 as a kid but don't actively collect them.

I've seen rainbow high all over the place recently! I'd love to see your collections, I think there was a thread somewhere else on the Trading Post recently discussing a place to share our non-pony collections (nothing concrete yet though).

I'm still brain storming and buying up stuff to move a lot of my collection around our tiny apartment so no pics until I get it the way I want! :lolpony:
But will definitely share when I get there!

I think I have an emotional connection to my childhood ponies. Having all my childhood ones feels like that’s a complete collection, almost like they’re separate from my more recent year ponies but at the same time, not separate because they’re all MLP

I have an emotional connection to all my toys though. They’ve always felt like friends and that they have feelings then when I get new ponies, they too feel like they have feelings. It makes it hard to part with toys…

I also kinda feel like my childhood pony’s are separate from ones I’ve gotten more recently, but sometimes one sneaks it’s way into that special collection lol

I am a haphazard collector.

I mainly am interested in G1 ponies, they were the ones I had as a kid and the ones that make me smile most.
I collect whatever I can find that I don't already have, be it pony, playset or random merch. Lately it's the random merch that catches my attention the most. And PINS. I adore pins and have a separate pin collection. I need Pony Pins.
The only ponies from other generations have to fit into a specific theme for me to want to keep them.

For G4, I’m definitely a completionist. I’m not seeking out to collect every rerelease ever, but once I have one, I wouldn’t get rid of it unless I have an extra of that EXACT toy. I’m trying to get the original release of every pony (including the Mane 6 because I actually don’t have all of their first releases), and all the major playsets too (castles, and just stuff I like). I’m also becoming a bit of a completionist for G5, but just like G4, I’m not gonna actively seek out toys I don’t like the look of. But if I don’t have it and end up with it, it’s still a welcome addition. This may change depending on my opinion of the G5 movie and show, since my love for the G4 toys, both now and as a young kid, definitely stems from my obsession with the show and other G4 media.

As for the other gens…I’m more of a “get what I like” kind of person. For G1 I’m trying to get all of the Twinkle-Eyed ponies. Everyone else is just me jumping around and going “ooo prettty,” or because they appeared in the cartoons. Can’t say much for G2 since I only have one, and I like her, but I’m not sure if she speaks to me enough to start collecting a lot. For G3 I want the characters I liked the most when I was very little, especially Minty, since I got a little green/blue family going on, featuring at least one pony from each generation. Other G3s? I’ll take them and display them (if I have room, some of them I’ve had to cramp in unflattering spaces…) but I don’t actively seek them out.
