Anyone else....?

I wonder ......... do you think we will have to resort to dumpster diving for those good old ponies? (or other toys) I'm not sure and i know it sounds gross but do you think or know of anyone actually doing this?

almost tempted but i think it is against the law, to dig thru their trash!! okay would you go to this extrem if you knew you would find a pony or 2?

Before doing that I'd call the 2nd-hand shops in your area. Tell them you're a vintage toy collector and would like to look through any batches of toys they're planning on throwing away because of the lead law.

If they knew you were an older collector and not some little kid who will be at risk, I think it would be legal for them to give you access to the toys. I'm sure the workers at these stores hate seeing things go to waste too.

I heard from the sales clerk at Goodwill that they have some sort of "as is" stores, where they will still be sending things they won't sell in other stores. Not sure if that is "legal", but that's what he told me...

Haha! hows about a bunch of us put on pony masks and go divin'!
I've dumpster dove before.
Last time it was at some hotel where they had just finished renovating the carpets and all these fancy carpet scraps were mine :D I made checkerfied steps with 'em and fixed up my dollhouse.

I took a shower. It was all good XP

Such a lame law. I'm glad to hear its not effecting everywhere.
MLP hunting is a big part of collecting :/ Its just not as fun to troll ebay as it is to dig though barrels of cruddy mcdonalds toys only to be surprised by a lovely pony hiding at the bottom and waiting for you to take her home and make her lovely again.

most of my collection is from thrift stores. When I first starting collecting again I would find them often. now I can't find anything even in stores like walmart (I know not second hand) The shelfs are so bare. I'm just having no luck anywhere.
I still check second hand stores every now and then.

In over 6 years of collecting I have never found ponies in thriftstores.

And for the last 2-3 years I hardly find any on fleamarkets. Not even a single G2 which you could find everywhere in the years before.

I think I find ponies or mlp stuff on fleamarkets once or twice a year....

And then hearing stories of people still finding rare ponies on fleamarkets over and over again, is sometimes frustrating.

Almost my entire G1 collection is from thrift stores. I've kept them because they seem more special finding them second hand. I just found Medley and Firefly and they have these LOOOOOOOOONG tails too (not curly). So pretty.

I always find a slew of G3s but they're always the same ponies, and I almost never ever find G1s...I hit different Savers' like 3-4 times a week!

I rarely find pony anything anymore...let alone G1's. I almost died last week when I was in a thrift shop and found a G1 plush. I grabbed her up so fast. I just stick to finding my ponies here or if I must..ebay.

well my salvation army informed me the other day that they would no longer carry toys (not that they ever really did) and what wth only having 1 thrift stre in town, i guess i'm not that great with commentary here. but yeah...i'm having a time trying to find 2nd hand ponys in town. can't wait for yard sale season
:reaper: Kat :reaper:

The resale store here doesn't sell toys anymore either. I never found much there anyway but I loved the thrill of the hunt. I haven't been to the flea market lately so I don't know if they still have toys or not.

Yeah,I get all my G1s from thrift stores, but basically my entire pony collection has come from Value Village. Over the last year or so,ponies have really really slowed down. I did find a whole bag of ponies the other month, but it's getting near impossible to find G1s there anymore. I still find G3s often enough, but I usually have the ones I see there so I leave them for a kid to find, unless I need a pony for a custom. When I was little there used to be a pony or a couple of bags of ponies every single time we went in. I really miss that,I guess most people who had ponies have already gotten rid of them. It's like there used to be tons of those Troll dolls too,but I haven't seen one of those there in years. Strange how ponies are becoming impossible to find in most thrift places.

I hear that more and more resale shops are pulling toys. :( I've seen lots of toys in my local ones, but fewer and fewer ponies. Lots of happy meal kind of stuff, but nothing too old. I've found a decent array of G3s in okay shape, but G1s have become really scarce. Sigh!

I went to the thrift store where I got many of my ponies the first time around, expecting to find some, but all I found was a seemingly broken (or
just didn't have batteries) crawling Pinkie Pie. I like G1's better then G3's,
so I passed because I couldn't remember what it did and I couldn't see where
the batteries went in.

I really miss when that thrift store had ponies, because I remember them being so cheap. Ebay is so pricey anymore. (Though good for getting G1's if you can snag a deal.)
