I really think Hasbro should try to make some male G3 ponies. I really love the G1 Big Brother ponies (Quarterback is my favorite!). Is it true they didn't sell well, though? That's what I heard.

I guess a lot of little girls don't like the idea of boy ponies, eh? We have Ken dolls for Barbie, so I think they should have some male G3s for the female G3s. It adds more of a variety, eh? It would be neat to see them introduced in a future MLP cartoon.

Any comments?

What should make Hasbro rethink, if they were made aware of it, is that a lot of collectors and kids both are choosing to make some of the, uh, less feminine G3s boy ponies anyway, surely that indicates a need for there to be boys in Ponyville?

~*~ LARPer ~*~

Haha, I did that too. When me and my cousin used to play ponies together, we made some of the female ones males since they didn't have enough G1 males for us. I also used to make some of my Littlest Pet Shop animals males too, whether they were intended to be males or not.

I love boy ponies too, but I'm not surprised why little girls didn't like them. After all, if you're a "typical" little girl, are you going to go for the pretty pink pony with butterflies, or, the blue thing with a football on it? I mean, I was the biggest tomboy and still am, but dislike those sports, so ponies with basballs on them are of no interest to me. Trucks & trians are not that much better. Really, what was Hasbro thinking?

On the other hand, the Mountain Boys they got 100% right. What little girl wouldn't love a set of these guys?! (I think the ebay prices answeres that questions) Their colours are better then the Big Brothers and thier symbols are more open-ended and... well, kinda etheral, more in the theme of fantasy and ponies ;)

So I am certainly crossing my fingers for boy ponies, and I hope they will be like Mountain Boys. And for a bonus, they'd also have big hairy feet!

Ah, for the love of drafters :D

I think the real question here would be - who doesn't want Hasbro to make boy ponies? ^.~ I'm sure every collector would like to see male ponies!

Even I, who don't collect G3, would like to see what would G3 boys look like, just like I'd like to know what they are going to make the unicorns look like. (I know they spoiled the pegasi from my point of view! *grins*)

Well, maybe we'll see some boys when some time passes. I just hope the boys aren't like G2 boys - they look exactly like the girls. o.o

Hasbro CAN'T make boy ponies for the G3 ponies, it was on the hono-lulu post about the new DVD!

The G3 ponies/baby ponies are 'sisters' now... what would a boy pony be? It's not like it wouldn't be cool and the custom boys people are doing look awesome, but where would a boy pony fit in the butterfly-pegasus-ice-cream world
[small note, the G3 pegasi are so ugly! I agree with gusty on that one]

From a collectors point of view it would be a pain in the backside, if hasbro can't get pegasi right what would the boys look like? They'd be hideous! And it's not like they haven't brought out enough for people to be getting on with so far.

Kids are growing up quicker, and learning that the world isn't all cookies and pink. But they are also becoming fat little brats because of it! (have you SEEN kids in the toy isle lately? um, no offense intended) With boy ponies in the new G3 range it would kind of ruin that blissful innocence.

MLP is like an oasis of complete bliss away from the scummy fashion-orientated drug-taking anorexic world of barbie bratz. In the 80's the boy ponies provided the muscle and braun to save the girlies, and family values as well. Nowadays what would they be viewed as? 'Single mummy and baby pony sueing daddy pony for not paying child benefits' ponies would become nothing more than barbie dolls.

I for one want MLP to remain sweet and innocent like it always has been, if it means staying with the sister-sister pony scenario then fine. I just don't think adding boy ponies will do anybody the world of good in a new-age society of single mums and unfaithful boyfriends.

'scuse the rant I needed to say that :p

re

yes they definitely need to make a whole line of male g3. i think they'll be very cute, lolz.

For me is super creepy they aren't G3 boys, like someone metined before hasbro wants the girls to play whit homosexesual ponies
Just look at this pic they are all walking whit thet best "friend"

okay, what the !@#$ is with all the people thinking about ponies having sex? no, 2 ponies walking side-by-side doesn't mean they're homosexual, it means they ACTUALLY ARE best friends. the implication that "friends" in ponyville means "more than friends" just because there are no boys is just sick. god forbid there be a single toy line for little girls that DOESN'T obsess with boyfriends and sex. god forbid little girls make cotton candy and twinkle twirl best friends instead of lesbian lovers.

Agreed, 100%.

Also:
They think about destructive stuff and they got gi joes and crashing their hot wheels cars.
When I was a little girl I played with GI Joes, and most certainly crashed my Hot Wheels cars. In fact we'd go to my grandma's house and roll them along the floor so fast they'd fly straight down the staircase. Intentionally.

I support the idea of boys as well.

I love the Big Brother ponies and the Mountain Boys etc so I'd love to see G3 guy ponies.

Whether they are brothers or dads or dates, I don't care - I think little girl will use them as they seem fit no matter what Hasbro intends, just as they make some ponies to be male even if Hasbro created them as girls...

So bring on the guys!!! The sooner the better...

Hugs, lily

I guess i think that arguments against the boy ponies that are centered on "girls are spice and everything nice", or those that suggest that the introduction of male energy into a toyline would remove all innocense from it are absolutely silly and even a teeny bit offensive.

I have lots of friends from both genders and trust me, there is very little that is inherently innocent and sweet about females that is absent in males. Sheesh.

Besides, why do the boy ponies have to be pigeonholed into traditional roles in order to participate in the line? I thought the existence of this site alone proved the "girl toys are only for female kids who think boys are gross" idea to be a vast misconception.

Also, minds.. gutter... geez.

Additionally (almost done, i swear), arguments centered around "well i hate [insert g3 pony-related noun here] in general so they should completely stop doing anything that isn't recreating the same old female earth ponies (of which there are already over 200) because i'm just going to hate everything anyway etc etc" are unfun because a lot of us like g3 and think the pegasii are wonderful and can't hardly wait to see which creative venture hasbro will dare to take next. Basically, i'm saying that "just stop because i don't like it" seems a little self centered as a standpoint on the issue.

in conclusion, I personally hope hasbro will do anything reasonably appropriate and marketable with the line that they haven't done with it before, and that includes boys. go boys.

I agree whit you too :D

In my scool almost all they clasmetes were males, so I'm not afreid to boys.

They can be they frends, and if someone din't like the pony boys is simple, DON'T buy them and let them for the people who apreciete them :D don't be so egoist

I never really liked the actual boy ponies, though I always thought Blossom was a boy. But then again, I don't think boys should really look all that different from girls anyway...

I agree. I hate how huge and clunky the Big Brother molds are compared to the "regular" G1 ponies. I hate that they're drafthorses--as if all drafthorses are male! If they'd just made the males slightly taller and slightly chunkier, I would have been okay with it, but the Big Brothers look they're pumped up on steriods.

I love boy ponies too, but I'm not surprised why little girls didn't like them. After all, if you're a "typical" little girl, are you going to go for the pretty pink pony with butterflies, or, the blue thing with a football on it?

I agree with this, too. I think Hasbro was trying to put a foot in both worlds--hoping that because they were My Little Ponies, they would appeal to little girls while at the same time hoping that some little boys would pick them up because they were "masculine" colors (well . . . some of them) and had stereotypical boy-themes, like football. Of course, the sad reality is that most school-age boys would have gnawed off their own arm before choosing a "girl" toy off the rack, for fear of teasing.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind boys if they weren't in overdone poses like the Big Brothers and had "neutral" symbols (like space- or nature-themed) instead of sports and professions.

In fact, Sea Spray's pose is a male pose in my mind . . . slightly taller than the average G3 with a somewhat chunky face. Or Hasbro could simply use existing molds for boys. There's a precedent for it from both previous generations of ponies--Doodles (newborn twin), Sportstime, Baby Schoolbag, and the UK Daddies were all males in "female" molds, as were all the G2 males.

beans did you see MY post? it took up half a screen!

flick i think I'm kinda responsible for the deviation from "G3 boys would be cool yes/no" to "full on rants about why what who where how things have changed and how we all have sick minds blablablabla..." [sorry baby booma if my post implied anything, it didn't mean to]

I guess I ignored the fact that the old boy ponies were called 'big BROTHERS' and could therefore fit in anywhere if re-made for G3.

I agree with beans on the fact that all the ponies are getting a bit dull and the flood of super-girliness does need a little variation...(understatement!)

I'm really sorry if I offended anyone! I take it back! The pegasi really are cutesy!
...and boys ponies would be cool

HANGON baby schoolbag is a BOY? nuts I thought she was a girlie...oops

HANGON baby schoolbag is a BOY? nuts I thought she was a girlie...oops

Hee, nope! His backcard story says he's a boy . . . with a magic schoolbag he can pull almost anything out of, or something. (I think it would be horrible to be named after a schoolbag.) There's a prototype of him with feathered hooves in some brochures, too.

What's wrong with homosexual ponies, it's the 21st century after all.

You know, the first two G3s who got "masculinized" in my collection ended up being gay . . . because when I was looking at the first brochure pictures I decided that Kimono (boy) would be cute with Minty (girl). But then I got Minty and . . .

Minty: *is male*

Me: No, no, Minty . . . you are not male. You are female!

Minty: *is male*

Me: Now, look, stop that. You're a girl. Ribbons, yaaay! Sleepovers, yaaay!

Minty: *is male*

Me: You have pink hair! You cannot be a boy! IT IS FORBIDDEN!

Minty: *is male*

Me: *throws hands in the air* FINE, have it your way! I've already paired you up with Kimono so I guess you're gay, then! *shoves him next to Kimono*

Minty: *grin grin*

Kimono: *SO CONFUSED*

Little girls like playing family, including with ponies, so I propose Hasbro should make family sets that include boys :D

(Oh, and lol @ LadyMinty!)
