So twice now, at two separate flea markets, I've run into vendors with G1 ponies who charge more for the ones made in Hong Kong. I killed at the flea market today with G1's and G3's. The vendor with the G1's wanted $5 for her ponies made in Hong Kong because "those are the vintage ones". She charged $1 for the ones made in China. I got merry go round Sparkler for $1 and big brother Chief for $5, just as an example, she had quite a few. She wanted $5 each for Cotton Candy and 2 Peachy's with yarn for tails. I left those.

Anyway, what's the deal with this? Where are vendors getting the idea that the the ponies made in Hong Kong are especially rare?

I'm not complaining about her prices, I would have paid her $5 for nearly all the ones she had. It just seems like a nutty idea.

The other vendor I've had this happen with had a bunch of fakies made in Hong Kong and G1 and G3 Hasbro ponies. He wanted more for the fakies because the ones made in Hong Kong are especailly rare, according to him.

Huh?

They are funny, I had this happen at a market here. The babies were less because they were the "Little ones" LOL. I guess its a case of having no idea and trying to set prices for them by what they see :D

People are quirky. They probably heard one particular Hog Kong made item that has nothing to do with Ponies at all was valuable so they got it intotheir heads that everything made in Hong Kong is gold.

....aren't all of the ponies "made in Hong Kong" though? >___< it says so on the bottom of all their hooves XD

*lifts up a common G1 pegasus I've made like 5 customs from within the past year or so*

"Patent pending. Made in Hong Kong."

IT'S NOT EVEN RARE AT ALL

I find flea market sellers to be very particular about pricing ponies. I once had a woman charge 25¢ for Locket and $3 for Medley. Her reasoning? Locket had demon eyes so she wanted to sell her fast :lolpony:

Well if you are not collector you don't know the prices or how rare the pony is. So they made up some prices :p and if somebody who isn't collector either purchase those ponies they usually believe what seller says.. Only a collector or somebody who is familiar with the subject knows the values better. It applies in any goods . If you do not know anything about for example vintage shoes you propably believe what the seller says about them (if you do not want to do your own research).
Ofc collectors gets good laugh when hearing these stuff which is rare and which is not etc.

I got one good laugh when someone selled brown twinkler as rare pony for 15€ (about 19$). Only that twinkler is purple and the brown color she got is probably because the pony was too much sunbathing ;).

When I bought my ponies, the woman said " These are for collectors" and they were all the common ones!
Now that I checked, Quackers' foot says HONG KONG on it.

Locket, demon eyes? TALK ABOUT CHUCKY! I BET SHE THOUGHT HE WAS CUTE!!!

So is this a version of King Kong but instead of an ape is a hog? lol

You know what's really sad about my typos? I work on the side as an editor, so I'm usually the one spotting other people's booboos.

You are mah zombie spellchecker and editor!
