I'll be moving back home from college in a few weeks, and this includes packing up my collection to do so. I have mostly g4s (fashion styles, blind bags, playful ponies/brushables), along with a number of g3s and g1s. I also have the large electronic/talking Candace/Celestia's and Zecora and SDCC Derpy's boxes.

What's the best way to pack everyone up so I don't spend days fixing all their hair? And is there a good way to keep boxes in good condition as well?

The move will be a 7 hour drive, and then however long it takes me to set up in my room. At least I don't have any play sets or castles to bring!

I store/display my unstyled ponies with their mane twisted and tucked neatly between their forelegs. I also twist their tails and wrap them around a back leg. It keeps a lovely curl in it and is quick and easy to fix back to how you need it. As for the ones you may have already styled (I love to try and keep the "on the TV show" FiM G4's styled to be show accurate) it may do well to maybe gently wrap their heads in cling wrap or something like that to protect their style.

Maybe wrap the loose ponies in tissue to help protect them. The boxed ponies maybe need bubble wrap around them to help protect the box corners. Are you moving them yourself? If not then make sure the boxes are labelled as Fragile and not to be put on the bottom of the pile to avoid squished ponies!

I personally suggest plastic bins. Something like this: Sterilite 28-Qt White Storage Box - Walmart.com

They're really nice for loose ponies. Just pack them in standing up and kind of wrap their hair around their necks and put their tail between the legs. It keeps the hair fairly nice. If you think you're going to be storing them for a while, you can go the extra mile by putting each one in a plastic baggie (DO NOT close them), and possibly throwing a silica packet in with them. That will lower the possibility of paint rubs and moisture issues. And pack them in pretty tight so they don't move around. You can fill extra room with tissue paper. (Don't use newspaper. The ink will rub off on to the ponies.)

As far as boxed stuff, a bigger plastic bin or even just a sturdy cardboard box is good. The boxes that they ship cereal in are really heavy duty. Most stores will give them away for free if you go when they're stocking.

This is all just from personal experience. I've moved my entire collection, as well as my husband's MOC Star Wars figure collection, a total of three times now. So far, using the methods above I haven't had any problems. :)
