Blind Bag Burglary!

I worked at a Walmart in high school, and their policy about theft was pretty strange at that time (late 90's). If an employee saw a person steal something, they could not personally do anything about it. The employee had to call the under-cover security person, and THAT person had to see the theft take place. I once saw some young girls loading their pockets with barrettes & hair accessories, but by the time I notified security those kids were finished actually removing merchandise from the shelf & stuffing it in their pockets, so they could not be "caught in the act" by the appropriate person. :bonk: The only security cameras that were recorded were focused on the cashiers... apparently they were more concerned with employees stealing from them than customers! :bonk::bonk: I have no idea what their policy is these days.

Can't think of a title!!

Who would do such a thing? Surely, there were cameras in the store somewhere!

I know for a fact Walmart and Kmart both have security cameras, and they DO put you in jail if they catch you. It isn't worth going to jail for. I hope no one on this forum would do that.

I feel the same way about illegal drug use, even if it's just *********. It's not worth going to jail for! I can't believe people risk jail just so they can get high.

*Steps off of soapbox*

The problem with this is yes they do have security cameras, but they have security cameras ALL OVER THE STORE. My husband works loss prevention and its difficult for them to keep and eye on everyone.

Plus there are certain protocols they have to follow in order to even be allowed to catch a shop lifter. Sometimes they have to let them go :-(

Looks like my walmart was a victim. The Bilnd bags I picked up, one was open too. Luckily Glowy twilight was still in her bag

I know, its crazy isn't it? How could someone want to risk being arrested over something that costs $1.96? Walmarts all over my town have blind bag theft.

Uh.. wow. Reading that, I kinda have to feel that Walmart kinda deserves to have stuff stolen from them then..

Sadly, I've seen it too. I've caught a few Bronies doing it here! I gave them a talking to about how they are syealing from CHILDREN and the economy.

GOOD! They should know better than that. Especially when the number lists are out free for everyone to reference. No need to open the bags..

Exactly! I think it's a matter of lazyness and lack of sympathy for other people. Some people, espeically in this generation, think they can go around doing stuff like that, and then complain when it happens to them.

Just found out today my Walmart doesn't carry them anymore! Due to so many people stealing them.

Same here at all the Walmarts around town! I go and think the box is full but then I realize almost all are empty bags and the pony has been stolen. :( I don't understand people sometimes!

I had to buy Lily Blossum, because she was the last blind bag I was missing. She was the only one at 5 below, and the bag was already ripped open! D: I just had to buy her regardless! When I brought her up to the counter, the cashier glared at me and said "You shouldn't open products. Did you open any others? You have to pay for any you opened." I was like, "No Ma'am, I found her like this! She was the only one of her kind so I wanted her anyway" she glared at me like she didn't buy it. When I pulled out my credit card and she said "Where's your mother, I don't trust that's yours either." I was appauled! I said "I'm 16, this is mine, you can just ask to see my ID." I showed it to her and she let me buy it.

When I got back in the car my Mother and Boyfriend asked me why it took so long to buy one pony. I told them that I had been accused of being a criminal. Me! It was the only thing I got on my birthday because I had to study for the final exam the following day, and all I asked for was one $2 pony. I walk in there with a Firefly T-shirt and pink tutu, and cupcake converse and pinkie pie keychain necklace, all my pony keychains, pony charms, McDonalds keychains, and mommy charms dangling off my purse as I stand tippy toed to hand this woman my credit card, all happy and ready to run out into the parking lot with my pony umbrella from preschool in a thunderstorm and yell at my Mom's car "I FINISHED THIS WAVE OF BLINDBAGS!"

No, this lady had to rain on my already-rained on (literally) parade.

I'd be upset from being accused by her, and complain to her manager.
When I was 16, I would've been petrified to ask for a manager. And now that I'm 23 and people still think I'm 16, I just laugh it off. I think Pinkie did the right thing by just leaving. Although if it happens again in the same store, I'd definitely complain. :eek:k:

I guess I just don't put up with anything lol, especially being accused of something I didn't do. Don't let her rain on your parade, you did do the right thing by standing your ground and then leaving.

We don't have ANY of the blind bag ponies here yet. We've got other blind bag toys, and I've never seen any of them opened like that in any stores. That's absolutely awful. :(

I haven't noticed this yet but every time I check the numbers on the blind bags I feel that the people that work there think I'm opening them. I hate getting looked at like that!

I'm not one for complaining, and I find it a waste of time. I've only complained once, when I received raw chicken at McDonalds. I thought it was worth getting upset over, espeically if it is a serious health concern. I'm used to being falsely accused, being a highschooler who usually gets blamed for what a bunch of punk kids did, or happening to be at the wrong place at the wrong time! It's usually just my bad luck! I can't tell you how many times I've gotten lost during summer school (at a different highschool every year) and been accused of skipping class. -_-

Some employees are just stupid. I've dealt with worse at Walmart, Kmart, and McDonalds.

When I was 15, I was taking a driver's ed class in a local strip mall. The place where the class was didn't have a bathroom, so I walked next door to a grocery store to use their bathroom. As I was leaving, the store manager stood in front of the exit and said to me "What are you stealing? What's in that hoodie?" and I was like "My hands are in my hoodie because it's 30 degrees outside and not much warmer in here!!" People can be so ageist. I'm 23 now, but I still look like I'm in high school, so I still have to put up with it. Eventually, you just learn to let it slide, unfortunately.

It really didn't upset me as it did irratate or annoy me! It's people like kleptomaniac Bronies, lazy people who can't just check online, and pesky little kids who have to open and handle everything that make things difficult for people like us, who just want to buy what we don't have in our collections.

Think about it, if one guy didn't put a bomb in his shoe at an airport, we all wouldn't have to remove our shoes.

One person does the wrong thing and the trust is lost for the rest of us.
