So what's the difference? Anyone have pics of the differences? Does it spread and what causes it?

No pics, but I think cancer is a type of mold. They are both contageous. I'm not positive of the difference, but I think that cancer is either very difficult or impossible to remove. It's caused by a number of factors, such as plastic quality and storage conditions (attics and basements are breeding grounds for mold), and also if the pony is stored with another pony that has the mold. If you do not wish the mold to spread, you will have to "quarantine" the pony, or keep her away from other ponies.

Which would be worse? Cancer sounds really bad but does mold infect a larger area?

Cancer is /not/ mold. Cancer is the plastic of a pony breaking down and does not spread. Mold is a bunch of little specks embedded into the plastic in an area. It looks like a bunch of blackhead zits or something. It's often called pin-head mold, which is very descriptive as to what it looks like. Mold can spread, but if you clean the pony well, it won't. Bleach, boiling, and the like can kill it, but may also promote the disintegration of the plastic (and thus cause cancer eventually, though I think all ponies are going to succumb to that eventually).
