Or was I being totally naive? I was scanning the classifieds online when I spot an ad that intrigues me. It says "unopened vintage MLP" It goes on to say they are rare BRAZILIAN ponies and they even use the word ESTRELA. I figure it has to be legit. The ad gives a phone number and says not to email, to call or text only so I shoot them a text. I get a text back asking what the heck I am talking about. I apologize and recheck the ad but I was correct, apparently someone is playing a joke on them and posting their number for people to text them? Whatever the issue I was extremely disappointed. Especially since they only wanted $50 for both and I live less than an hour away!

Man someone isn't really that creative with pranks >.>

That was a mean joke to play. Sorry you had to go through that.

maybe the paper misprinted the number?

trying to be optimistic for you.

I have had something similar happen to myself. Somebody placed an ad for a car on a website, used my cell number, said not to email, just call. And the website would NOT take the ad down, either. Not sure who it could be, only my mother, father, and sister know my cell number (I only use it for emergencies, can't afford leisure calls)... but it was incredibly annoying, and incredibly expensive.

Although, since getting this number, I get the occasional call or text for the same person (from different people, who haven't spoken to that person in a while)... so perhaps it was intended for the person who owned my number previously.

It is possible that it's just a mis print. I've gotten calls from people thinking they were calling a number that was very similar to mine. I've also gotten texts from people who thought they were texting their co-workers which I thought was odd and you wouldn't believe how long I had to argue with them to convince them that there was no "Todd" at that number.

Plus depending on weather or not the add was placed via online or if the person called over the phone to place the add, they might not have spoken clearly and the person who took the information might not have misheard.

It's definitely disappointing, but it could just be an honest mistake, rather than a mean joke.

I suppose it's possible that they mis typed it, it was on Craigslist so you are responsible for proofreading your ad. I just found it very bizarre that they went into so much detail if it was a joke. People are strange, I will never understand them!

I would email them anyways via craigslist and ask if that's the right number. If they're wanting to sell them really bad, they'll get back to you. I've had people say to call them regarding stuff on craigslist, but I email them anyways because I hate talking on the phone. So you never know! ;)

I did email them a few days ago and haven't gotten an answer. Oh well, if it's too good to be true it probably is!

Actually, that's one of the basic rules of Gumtree, a site similar to craigslist. I suppose you'll never find out if it was a joke or just a misprint. It's just one of those annoying things that happen.
