I may be starting customs, but I'm not sure about a few things. I am going to be making my persona, Winter Solstice, but I'm not sure what the best method would be. I'm hoping to paint her, but I want her to be useable (in such a way that her paint won't easily chip off)
I'll want her to be dark blue. What method (dying or painting) should I use to make her?
If paint, what kind of paint should I use?
And does anyone know of affordable places where I can enough paint to cover a G3?

Thanks!

acrylic paint is the best to use. it's cheap, easy to find, and you can do alot of FBR with 1 bottle. you can foind it in pretty much any craft store. i perfer Folkart and AppleBarrel myself. Hate CraftSmart but some swear by it so to each their own really.

Dying is tricky. it depends who you're using asa base and what you want it to do. for your persona, wether you paint or dye the dark blue i think you'll have to do her stock gradient in paint; getting that dyed is tricky. and when you dye you can't make it lighter-you always have to go darker.

If you wanted to dye her, I'd suggest starting with a blue pony and giving her a bath in a navy colored dye. I wouldn't worry about the leg gradients as you dye. I think they'd be easier if you painted them on after the base was dyed.

I'd dye then paint the legs. To get a sort of airbrush look without actually owning an airbrush look there you might want to try dabbing some paint on a dry paintbrush, then dabbing most of the paint off on your hand or a paper towel so that it's not really thick then gently dabbing what's left onto the legs (you may need to repeat this a few times to get the right amount of coverage/color).

thanks

Thanks for the help everyone :)
