Ok, so I made this gal a couple of years ago (haha!) and just decided on a name/symbol concept. I've only painted it on her display side for now... I wanted some input before I proceeded further. Do you think I need to add anything to what I have so far? As of right now, it's just a lit pillar candle with a little rose and petal... (if you can't tell) I'm thinking maybe another petal or two... but I'm striving for a vintage Hasbro look, so I don't want it to get too busy. Anyway, let me know what you think, if you guys don't mind! :3

*UPDATE*
I went ahead and did another petal, and felt like I needed a touch more green for balance... The new petal is a little bit bigger than I had intended, but I tried to make it look cupped/curled. Anyway, I think I am happy with how she looks... now it's just the daunting task of painting the other side... (Thinking I'll flip the image on my comp and work from that so I can get it reversed correctly...)

What's the final verdict? OH and should I make her eyes the grey color rather than leaving them black? (Minor detail, but it'd be more accurate to the set)

:)sunny:And thanks SOOO MUCH for all the kind complements! It makes my heart happy that you guys think she looks factory~esque!)

I'm thinking if I do another petal, it should be a little lower than the first one, between it and the flower, and turned the other way. The more I look at it, the more I feel like much more would be overkill... I had initially planned on doing another flower on the other side of the candle, but really, her tail would be in the way and it would end up being a bit large for a regular style symbol.

I think she's beautiful! However, since you asked for opinions. . . .I do think one more petal between the original petal and flower would look best. There just seems to be a teeny bit too much space between the flower and the original petal. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing. I love how you did the candle and the rose--it looks very vintage Hasbro.

I agree, I think it needs one more *little* petal. Then you have three 'vegetation' elements (the two leaves and the vine/stem) and three 'floaty' elements (two petals and the group of dots) and odd numbers are usually more visually appealing.

On another note, I absolutely ADORE her. I think she is very true to the vintage Hasbro look and what can I say? I'm a total G1 fan. I haven't seen a G1 custom that fits in this well with the rest of the line (that WASN'T based on an existing Hasbro pony) in a long time. I think she's *ahem* totally awesome! Bravo on the steady-hand symbol work. I get shaky after awhile when I'm trying to paint something exact.

<3 Love. Absolutely love.

woah suuuper legit!!!
these are my fave types of customs!!! ones that look like they actually came from hasbro!
do you have any more? :mfight:

Wow I'm stunned that such a 'simple' custom is being so warmly received! You guys are so super awesomely sweet!

Now that you mention it SoccerChicka, I don't think I've seen any vintage style Hasbro customs in a looooong time either... Of course, I see lots of great customizing work regardless! :)

I have plans to make another Perfume Puff custom as well... Looking for a pegasus bait (as mentioned in my sig lol!) and thinking of maybe doing a pretty folding fan symbol with lavender perfume puff type hair. I might have a deflocked Wind Whistler located...

I have also toyed with the notion of revamping the 'Magic Message' pony symbols, since most of the time they don't work anymore. And what about making regular sized versions of some of the petites? I think it'd be a cool idea!

She's so dainty and sweet. I really like the vintage look like everyone else has said. Very nice. One of my favorites that I've seen in my time here so far.

How do you get the hair like that? looks like as if its just brushed out yarn? She a beauty! nicely done. :eek:k:

The final result is great! I love the tiny details that you added! It does look very authentic.

Seconded. The extra details give it the finishing touch she needed. Just looking at the two pics side by side completely confirms it for me. She's so pretty!

I always hate that part, where you're super excited about the symbol you've painted and then you realize you have to recreate a replica! I am bad and usually only do the display side because I feel like I won't be able to replicate it well enough. But then again, I only make customs for myself. :)

It actually is a super bulky acrylic yarn that's unraveled and brushed out. It's a little softer than real Perfume Puff hair... but looks almost the same. I want to scent her hair, but I'll probably just spray a little perfume on her rather than trying to actually infuse it with an aroma.

SoccerChicka, I think we've been spoiled by all these G3 and G4 ponies with only one symbol haha! Even though I don't plan on selling Fragrant Flicker, it will bug me to no end if I don't paint the other side. I'm just neurotic like that lol!

I did track down a deflocked Wind Whistler that is going to become her buddy. Colorwise, I'm thinking Lavender hair... I love light blue and lavender together!

StarBlaze, I hear you. I guess I'm just neurotic in the opposite way...because it would drive me crazy if the symbols weren't similar enough. Lol

Can't wait to see what you have in store for WW!
