Did the price of a single pony go down when they released the re-designs?

I'm just getting back into ponies since I have a DD who's the right age now.

Just wondering. Did the price of single ponies go down when they re-designed...since they're smaller now?

If so, how much was a traditional single pony before?

Thanks,

Yeah, I meant G3s...sorry, about that.

Really, $2.50? Wow!!

So, when they made the switchover (last year was it?), the price pretty much stayed the same. No price drop for less plastic? LOL.

G1 or G3?

5" sized G3s could be as low as $2.50 for simply packaged store exclusives (like Kimono II)
to $4.99-7.49 or so for everything past the Butterfly Island series.

G1s originally sold for, what - about three US dollars? I think a few of us own MOC ones with the original price tags on them. Generally speaking, mint in box G3s do hold their sticker value once discontinued, and some go up - but it varies depending on the popularity of the character and by how many other re-releases she's had. Right now a lot of people seem to be purging their MIB G3s and it's made the prices on them come down a bit.

Yes, it was 2009. Although in 2008 I thought the change they made then was extreme until I saw the 2009 versions. There's no denying that 2003-2007 ponies belong together while 2009 (aka "new look") ponies are substantially different from all previous standard ponies (to me, they look like Ponyvilles with hair). If I were a 2007 pony and saw a 2009 pony for the first time, I'd start sweating and looking for a way to escape discretely.

Anyway, I've seen the prices on pretty much all the 2003-2007 and even 2008 ponies go UP in my own shopping experiences when the 2009 ponies came out. To me, this is unfortunate because I still don't have all the "old look" ponies that I want.

I'm actually one of those who like the new "kids" look. They're cute. I have nothing against the mold, but I have big problems with the Core7 in general. I seriously am sick of the same 7 chars over and over again.

I don't think G3s have gone up in value at all. Since Butterfly Island, the ponies have flooded the market so badly that they're good as banana notes now -worthless! Look at any sales page and people are going "PLS TAKE THESE OFF ME - $2-5 each". Loads of people buy G3s for the main purpose of customising rather than collecting. Winter pony Snowflake used to cost $50, and now she's more like $5. The castle trio exclusive from Costco used to go for $150, now you're lucky to get $15-$20 for each of them. Few G3s hold their grounds. Even Carribean Delight and the other SLH that came with her took a little beating. Still, they can still fetch up to $70 each. Yah, but they're just about the most expensive G3 there is.

Okay, just none of the 245 G3s on my wish list have gone down a penny. I'm not calling you a liar. In fact, this is very much my luck. My username is turning out to be a joke. I hope I get my hands on them before customisers do!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I just now verified asking prices on every pony on my G3 wish list, which turned out to be 122 ponies. I'm not very good at estimating numbers of ponies I guess, LOL! I usually guess double what's there! Oooh, I guess they're sooooooooo cute that when I look at them, I start seeing double! Anyway, most of them haven't gone up since last I checked either, though some I can't find for sale anywhere. Oh, I'm only counting MiBs. Loose ponies might indeed be going down so much that it's bringing the overall average down. If not, then it's back to my luck.

Loose "used" G3s have come down in price. Even the Comic Con and Fair ponies have lost value. But I don't think that's a result of the new ponies. I think it's more the economy.

I know for a little bit the price of the new G3s actually went up in stores and then settled back down. At my WalMart we were looking a prices closer to $7-8 for a couple of months, then they settled down to around $6 each. Which is still higher than the original G3s.

I remember when DD received her first pony in 2007, I think. We went to Wal-Mart to buy her another one and I think they were almost $7 then. I was thinking holy cow!! We didn't buy another one that day. Our Target stores around here have the newest ones for $4.99. But, with the printable B1G1 coupon that's only $2.50 each. Problem is, we are out of pony singles to buy now. :frown:

We only need Sweetie Belle NBC now and we'll have to buy the stroller set for her.

Do any stores activitly sell the old style of G3 ponies anymore? I don't mean stores like Big Lots, although we were thrilled to find some old-style dress-up sets there the other day.

I came across some old style ones at Target the other day. I thought they would have been clearance price, but the were still regular price.

Wow! I'm surprised, ours were like $4.88 when they first came out. You know stores should have set prices sometimes!
