Displaying your ponies

So I recently got some shelves to use for my ponies (courtesy of my momma, which is impressive, considering how she feels about my ponies.)

What I want to know is, how do you guys display your collections? I'm looking for ideas, as at the minute they're not particularly organized!

Is it by gens or by colour, or just your favourite ponies at the front? Do you display the accessories with them?
I've also seen some collections that have stands, so that the ponies behind are higher than the ones in front. Any idea where I can get those? (I'm in England, BTW)
 
I display my ponies first by gen, then by color within each gen. :D I use risers for my ponies, and the ones that I have in the picture below are just long, narrow cardboard boxes. I've also built mine from scraps of cardboard before. I've also seen people build them out of foam core.

You can also buy risers meant for kitchen shelves, which are kind of the perfect size for ponies. I've since reorganized my collection since I took the picture, but I bought wire risers (from the Dollar Tree!) which are wonderful for G3s since most of them have a magnet in their foot. :)

You'll find that there really are no two collectors that organize them same. It's all about what makes you happy! :D

What a lovely collection picture :) I organise my G1s in sets as they were released with the exception that mummys and babys are displayed together. But G3s I organise by pose. G2s are just kept in a plastic storage box. And G4s are played with by my kids and are pretty much just all over the floor.... LOL.

I display mine lots of different ways, I like to change it up whenever I get new ponies, it saves me just shuffling them along, lol! Some of my faves are:

In order of colour, with all gens mixed together
By colour, but in each generation
By pose
By pose but by type (earth, uni, peg, unipeg) mixed or in seperate gens
By set
In family groups, with a daddy, mommy, then ooodles of offspring!
 
Momo - that is amazing! I don't have much room right now but hopefully when I finally move out I'll have more space for all my ponies, instead of keeping them in storage like I have to right now.

I like the idea of having some of them by colour, especially as I have so many G3s. They have such beautiful colours!

I will definitely look into risers as they could be very useful, or even making them like you suggested. Thanks for the ideas, everyone!
 
I organize mine by set, and vaguely by year. Mostly it's by what set will fit where the previous set left off, lol!

I had some built-in shelves in my office when I moved in, and I put foam risers in those but my collection is approaching the 800 point with almost half of that G1's, being the largest gen. So I'm trying to figure out some type of shelving system that maximizes the number of ponies I can hold per square foot. I will not downsize ponies!!
 
Just by gen. I like the way they look kind of randomized. Sometimes I'll take them out of the cabinet and put them back in wherever. Oh, and my blind bags are in rows on my dresser.
 
I also keep my organized by Gen, set, and year. I keep the babies on the front row because they are smaller. I never thought about setting them up according to color that's a cute idea.
 
*drools* *whipes face* *drools some more* eh eh hem! Wow! Those are some awesome collections!! Beautiful! I love the arranging by colors! ^^ I only have enough to do that with my blind bags but seeing it done with all the gen ponies is simply awesome!
 
lol beautiful collection pics everyone, well i sort mine buy sets, but then i changed and sorted some buy what they r like unicorns etc but at present im re organising my room which means everything is everywhere. I dont think it matters how u organise as long as ur happy with it thats what matters and Ive never been happy with mine so with any luck this time the change will be permanent.
 
I don't have that many ponies so I just display them in one big book case in my room
 
I've always loved by gen and by set, so all the so softs are together, etc. But I do think by color looks beautiful!! Skeen, what an awesome Plush collection you have...so jealous!! But I agree with what everyone is saying, it really depends on what you love and how you would like them displayed....good luck!!
