Do people judge you for your collections?

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling that way about your pony collection :(

As a gamer myself (well, I play alot of WoW anyway :p ) I spend alot of time online with what is mainly males. I've been playing WoW with many of them for almost 6 years and not once has my pony collecting come up because, quite frankly, I don't see the need to bring it up. I know they have no interest in My Little Ponies so talking to them about it would be pointless. Same as it would be pointless for me to talk to them about my interest in cheerleading or about clothes, makeup and so forth.
Heck, I love Icehockey and I tried talking to them about that during the Hockey World Championship and they even thought that was stupid and boring to talk about. So now I won't bring THAT up either :p

The way I see it, there's not even any point in bringing up subjects with people when you know for a fact that they have 0 interest in it. Same as it would be pointless to start a conversation with me about say soccer because I have 0 interest in that.

As for friends, I'm not a very social person and honestly I don't have any friends at the moment. I do have to say though that I wouldn't want anyone as my friend that judged me for my interests. That doesn't say friendship to me.

The only ones who know about my collecting is my small family. My fiance and my mother are very supportive of it and even helps me obtain ponies. As for my grandmother and uncle they don't understand it and my uncle even made a remark to my mother a wile back along the lines of "Isn't she a little too old for ponies?". At the same time he's been a collector of Mickey Mouse stuff for as long as I can remember so who is he to talk? XD
But they're family, and even if they don't understand it they arent mean about it and I love them all the same.

Sometimes I have gotten remarks from cashiers in the toystore or the people at my postoffice. Once when I bought a bunch of new MLP stuff ar TRU the lady at the register went "Wow, I guess some lucky girl is gonna be very happy huh?". I just told her "Yup" since I don't see how its any of her buisiness that the lucky girl is me.

My point is, just like so many have written before, that you should do what you enjoy and don't care what other people think about it. People who judge you for what you love aren't worth your time and quite frankly, people doesn't need to know everything about you either. So there's not even any need to bring up MLP collecting with people who you know aren't interested in it and that you won't be able to have a conversation with about it. That will save you alot of trouble :p

Those are my opinions and experiences anyway :)

I know that feel~ I subscribe to that wisdom from time to time as well~

Or if I've tried talking to a person about what I do and all they do is laugh, I gather that they don't take what I do seriously so I never bring it up with them again~

I totally feel judged for mlp collecting.
I'm like you.. sensitive and anxious.
Intuned to how ppl perceive me.

But.. its got to the point where I flash a pretty smile,
flip my hair like a Goddess and simply reply ..."it"s fun".
I like to point out that *everyone* spends
money on things that others may call ridiculous.

Example: I personally think its a waste of money to consistantly
go tanning.. or getting your hair done for $100... lol I mean, come on..
I can always resell some ponies and make $ back.. that fancy hairdo is gonna
go flat and my ponies will be in their display case.. gaining value with every
passing month ;)
I also don't think its wise or even fun to go club hopping..
spending bookoo bucks on every cherry they put in your drink lol
But.. there are people who think that is fun so.. *shrug* why do they
concern themselves with me?.. Because people like to focas
on anything OR anyone who has a little sparkle, a little kick.. a little cork.
They just can not imagine not following typical acceptable rules of society.
Because remember.. its cool to blow $100 on an outfit or hairdo...
but not invest in vintage/collectible toys ~
lol (obvious sarcasm)

Life is full of personal preferences.
Some people never learn to accept others.

Just shrug or give em a good smack on the shoulder..
smile and say "Its Fun!.. don't worry bout it~".

Follow your own beat in life!
Its never fun dancing to soneone else's song.
Remember that~
:winkpony:

Well, bring those ponies out of the stable!
May YOURSELF happy!
Your not doing it to impress them, or show off right?
Be happy for you, and what you enjoy!
Don't bother with what other's feel/thing...unless...it's like an unhealthy obsession type thing you know?

My family visited my home.
They had seen my giant AU Minty on the couch in the apartment.

When we moved into the house, I had gotten a display case from a friend that owns a card shop & displayed some of my Build-a-Bears inside.

My family was judging me over the amount of toys, and were more impressed with the shelving than the ponies... so... yeah.

Judged, but weird about it?

Then again I didn't get to enjoy "nice things" growing up.
We were poor, still am to a degree but managing.
And I've had things taken, sold, used, "borrowed" etc.
My things in my adult home are my things, FINALLY!

Also have OCD and literally obsess over things...so..that is another issue entirely!

That..and going to conventions of My Little Pony...I'm female.

So many bronies outnumber/judge me it's concerning.

I actually have a friend who may well become an EX friend soon if she doesn't stop with the snarky comments about my Ponies and books. I know I have a lot of books, but I don't have enough. Same for Ponies. When I start spending the utility bill money on them or something, then it's a problem, but until then... my money, I spend it like I like. I dunno why anyone would want to fuss about how I spend my dosh anyway.

It escapes me why anyone would judge you for owning lots of books. They are in my opinion the most rewarding things you can buy. (I guess ponies are great too but reading is enriching!)

Heck, I actually used to have a TON of betta fish that were near death that I would save from Pet stores and heal them before my Dad told me to stop as well, now I only have 3 little betta's and I am not allowed to buy anymore fish in general. After that, I went with expanding my collections, since it was the only thing I could really buy for myself. Though, I really miss going to my local Petsmart and picking up the sick betta's and giving them a new and happy life~ (Maybe whenever I get my own place, I will save betta's again)

That is so amazing! I'd love to rescue fish too. :satisfied:

I don't go around telling people that I collect ponies. Whenever friends who come around are unexpectedly greeted by a herd of ponies they would usually respond with, "Oh my gosh! Ponies! How cute!" (My friends are mostly in their late teens or early twenties so they recall them fondly as childhood toys.) I suppose they are not too overwhelmed because my collection is relatively small (around twenty ponies) and also I'm not known to be the most mature person. I only buy ponies off here or eBay so I can avoid judgmental cashiers.

I'm quite worried about the Brony connotation though. I don't want my friends think I secretly watch pony ****. I'm tempted to reassure them that I'm collecting G3, which were produced before the fandom emerged. (Not that there is anything wrong with collecting G4 ponies to begin with!)

My parents and grandparents already know I'm weird, so I haven't gotten any grief from them. Can't say the same for anyone else, however, since I haven't told anyone outside of my immediate family.
