What do you call the picture on the pony? Symbol? Cutiemark? Or something else entirely? I call it a symbol, I've always called it a symbol.

Symbol. Cutie mark is just too, well, cutesy. My ponies went on amazing adventures to vanquish the evil pony overlord (who was always played by Merry Treat because I was an odd child)! Cutie mark isn't daring enough, isn't dangerous enough, isn't AWESOME ENOUGH!

It's funny, I call it symbol and my husband calls it a cutie mark. He only knows about ponies from FiM so I guess that makes sense.

Symbols or birthmarks; mostly the former, though. I grew up with G3s but I've always thought that Cutie-Mark sounded silly.

I've always called cutie marks symbols. Easier to say than cutie mark and some of their symbols aren't that cute and their more symbols than marks. I don't know thats just my opinion

Meh, I will call them Cutie Marks. Why not? I also grew up in G3, but G1 sounds more....... Unrealistic. I think its just my way of thinking. I dunno.

I call them symbols.

I use both, as my niece is so rabid she talked Ponies all day every day while she lived with me for about a year and she got me saying "cutie mark" as well as symbol.

I also say "butt mark" which is not as nice, but what the hay.

I use both, when writing in English :p
If I talk Finnish then I always use symbol (in Finnish Symboli. The cutie mark will turn in really funny word in Finnish, Söpöysmerkki... it is direct translation)

I say both. It was always symbol until FiM came along with the cutie mark nonsense... but then I got into the habit of saying that too, especially since it's used so often in the fandom and among the younger collectors. And I kind of like the head-canon that the show gave for them, too.

Symbol. Always.

PS - cutie mark started with G3! It is not from G4. Personally I wish they would have just dropped cutie mark and went back to symbol, it sounds too cheesy

I guess if someone commissions me for a G4 plush I say "Do you want this color for the cutie mark" but if it was a G1 custom I'd ask if the color was ok for the symbol. I change on the target audience, lol!

That's just smart marketing! Know your demographic! :D

I call them symbols on G1s/G2s and Cutie Marks on G3s/G4s.

I say both, but started out only knowing them as symbols.

To be honest I prefer ponies without symbols... I think psychologically I feel symbols restrain or confine the boundaries of potential in creativity and design x.x

So I've noticed I tend to only do them when requested ^-^;
