Symbols, for now and forever. :D I will not call them cutie marks--it sounds silly to me, but I grew up with G1.

Symbol. As someone who has collected from the jump in the early 80's, old habits die hard. :)

while I grew up with g3 ponies, I love that they call them cutie marks now <3 It's such a cute play on words, so while I used to call them symbols, I now fondly refer to them as cutie marks :satisfied:

~FF :flutter:

I use both. It depends on who I am talking to and whether I notice a preference within the conversation.

I think that if they were going to delve into the purpose of the markings on ponies that they were wise to give them an actual name. A symbol is not an actual thing, as I said over on the Arena. It is the designation of something, often granted by someone who is not totally certain they believe in what they are labeling. If the ponies themselves called markings meant to define 'the purpose of their life' symbols, they'd sound like they had some real issues. :p

I prefer the designs of what we tend to call symbols over the designs of most cutie marks. There just seemed to be a lot more creativity going on.

When referring to any pony outside of G1 I use the term cutie mark. For G1 I say symbol. I don't know about G2 as I don't have any of those.

I say Symbol when referring to G1/G2 and Cutie Mark when referring to G3/G4.

I call them Butt Mark or Butt pictor symbol thing.

I want to choke you for your spelling, son. You're getting better, but I swear child. I sent you to school! :madpony:

You're a disgrace to the Hootie owls!

It depends if I'm talking about a specific pony and on what gen. they're from. For G1 and G2, I call them Symbols, for G3, 3.5, and 4 I call them cutie marks. If I'm just talking about ponies in general though, I refer to them as cutie marks.

I used to find 'cutie mark' really weird-sounding but now that I hear it everywhere because of FiM, I've started calling it cutie mark :D

I usually say symbol, for no other reason than it's easier to say and to the point. Occasionally I'll call them cutie marks if I'm talking in the context of FiM (the show, not G4 in general). Which reminds me, I don't know what they called them in the Portuguese dub of the show.
